Bogota Interview.....

I would assume you need it as well, but I am just guessing at that.

By the way, there was a disussion in the Colombia forum about this. Someone had written the consulate asking if it was necessary and the consulate replied. The response is written in Spanish on this forum. Unfortunately, there is some incorrect info out there as it was in my opinion translated incorrectly what the response said. The response clearly states that it is required for the Fiance to have the DAS certificate and it is up to the Consulate to ask for the USC's DAS ceritificate, if he wants it.

Someone on this site translated it as "It's optional..." which is clearly not what the email states in Spanish. It clearly states that the Consulate can ask for it... which means it he does ask for it then it was not optional. I wouldn't go to the Interview nor send my fiance without it. I know you are in a different boat as yours is not a K-1

Good luck!

does it make a difference that that is for a fiance Visa and not for a spousal visa? mine is not a K visa

Do yourself a favor and get everything that applies to you that is listed in the embassy website under visa section, and interview package (http://photos.state.gov/libraries/colombia/231771/PDFs/ivpkt4appointmentjune2011englishrev.pdf)

I brought every single thing and they were very happy that everything was there and in the order they requested. the interview took two minutes and that was it...

Hello:

1)DAS Certificate on Migratory records.

As he is your spouse he can get that for you in Bogota is infront of the Chile embassy .

He only needs a certify Copy of the Marrige certificate from the Notaria Plus a copy of your Passaport . My wife didt for me before i arrive to Colombia. And his cedula and passaport.

Note They never ask for my however its a new requierment on PKG 3 or 4th for interview . Go to the embassy website and download the pkg you will find that requierment.

2) Worry About Documents.

It look like you have all the copies and even originals . The Embassy did have all my documents they had so much that they give my wife a bunch back . However is smart to try to take all copies of the documents you send during the process.

The Interview is was not really and issue for us there was some external factors that contribute on going to th embassy twice .

If you are planing to go it will make it more easy on the process as i said before on Vj's Perseption is a key point during the process and at the end at the embassy it can only help you been there.

Good Luck and if you need some more info feel free to e-mail

Regards

F

Good point! He is your "spouse" so he probably can get it as Felo has pointed out. Those of us with fiances are in a different boat. Just a few hoops to jump through for us if we cannot go there ourself.

I have read where it says that the USC can write a letter, notarize it, send it to the Colombian consulate, have them apostille it, they send it back to you and you have to send it to the beneficiary. My husband knows people at DAS, and they are just getting it for us (of course, we still have to pay the 43,000.00 peso fee). In Bucaramanga it takes a month to get. I don't know about other cities in Colombia, but I would check on this A.S.A.P. The embassy may or may not ask for it but if they do and you don't have it, you have to wait a little longer to be with your honey. Better safe than sorry. :)

Though I assume there are various ways for the USC to get it, the key word in your scenario was "hubby." I don't think a fiance can get it without jumping through more hoops. Interestingly you state that you got it in Medellin and the previous poster it looks like is getting it out of Bucaramanga... though most likely being mailed off as it takes a month. I was under the impression one must go to Bogota to get it. It's good to know that it isn't required that it come from Bogota. Both of you, please, update after you get the certificate, how long it took, if it was accepted etc.

thanks

Guys

Any thoughts on our issue, my wife is now a legal perm resident and we are working on the Visa for her daughter who was listed as "will follow" on the DS156K.. She is only eight years old, but my wife already has her green card and we are only completing the K2 portion of the visa for her daughter..

The interview for her 8 yr old daughter is in 2 weeks... My wife will be in Colombia for the interview, the child is not required to go, but will be there anyway because she must go for the medical exams..

She will have our US Marriage Certificate with her and I imagine can go to the DAS Certificate if needed.. But, just wondering if it's needed in our case..

Thanks

Kenny

ok, so i'm freaking out that I don't have everything I will need for my husbands interview in Bogota on the 14th *sigh* I will tell you what we have....(from memory I already sent and hubby received the documents in Colombia)

First off I would like to note I sent all originals to NVC they have original EVERYTHING lol(or should I say the Embassy has it now)

Copies of all packages(I-130, DS-230, and I-864)

We are bringing another original birth cert., Baptismal records, the migratory records, a newer marriage cert(all original even though the NVC forwarded originals and we have copies lol)

I have two Photo albums one full of the three trips I made down there and one full of wedding pics

I could not add him to my bank account without a SSN but I do have him added to my phone bill and public service bills and have copies of that. Chat history, e-mails, phone records, Screen shots of skype/MSN calls, records of money I have sent to him through money gram, little trinkets and what not that represent cute moments we had together haha...hmm I think that is it....

Am I missing anything???? (His medical is set for the 12th and interview the 14th so i do not have medical stuff yet)

Any feedback is greatly appreciated thanks in advance ;)

My wife just did her interview and they questioned the travel receipts I had... so they asked for her to go to the DAS and get a print out showing all of my travels to and from Colombia. I then did some research and found that is a normal request. Wished I would have known that prior.

What did she need to get that information? Copy of your passport? anything else?

How long did it take to get it from DAS? minutes? hours? days? longer?

Just curious...

+1 very curious on how long it took them to give it to her, and please let us know if there were any problems with her getting it. I.e. She just walked in and asked for your DAS Certificate? She didn't need a notarized Power of Attorney from you in order to get it?

Darn it... again though key phrase, "my wife." Thus those of us in the situation where it is a fiance could be in a different boat. Aarrrgh

Update: My husband requested it about a week ago, they told him that it would take one month. We got it yesterday. It doesn't seem like it takes that long in other cities either.
