emailing NVC instead of calling

Our case was approved on September 6 and today I tried to call the NVC to find out if it is there yet. But the phone lines were too busy. I was thinking of emailing instead but I thought I remembered reading that you need to put your case number in the subject line or something like that - can someone enlighten me and let me know if the NVC is good about responding to email?

Thanks

They usually take about 2 days to respond, but I always found it less frustrating than waiting on the line and then getting disconnected.

NVC is good about responding to email. You can put your USCIS receipt # in the subject field, and NVC will be able to reference that # to determine when your case was received and if they've assigned a case # to it yet.

Kitkat - I emailed, and they responded in 3 days. Said the case wasn't there yet and to call CIS with my address change. (which of course I can't do because I am not the USC and the USC is overseas for 2 more weeks with the reserves.)

I've had better luck getting through to the operators later in the day. About 3PM west coast time. Haven't tried yet today, but they don't seem to be getting cases very quickly from CIS anymore. :(

04/13/06 - I-129F mailed

04/18/06 - NOA1

08/30/06 - NOA2

09/26/06 - received at NVC

09/27/06 - forwarded to consulate

20/11/06 - visa in my pocket!

14/01/07 - POE

13/04/07 - marriage

27/04/07 docs sent in for AOS, EAD, AP

26/06/07 - biometrics appointment

02/17/07 - AP and EAD arrive

03/03/08 - Infopass - where the heck is my AOS interview?? No one knows!

Kitkat, please follow what all three have said. Email NVC and put your USCIS receipt number on the subject line.

NVC Process of I-130:

Their phone lines can be hard to get through, but I think it's worth calling since you do get an answer right away. Either be persistent, or try calling later at night. They take calls until 12am Eastern time; I've never had a problem getting through when I've called at 10 or 11pm. Otherwise, they will reply to your email, but as the others have said, it may take a few days.

I personally think that calling is better. I emailed the NVC and on the 4th day of waiting for a response called and spoke to an operator. She told me that my case had just been processed that day and gave me my new case number. The following day I received the email response I had waited 5 days for telling me that my case hadn't been received at the NVC yet. With emails you have to wait a few days and get a delayed response but speaking with an operator you get the status of your case at that very moment. Try calling in the evening. They have operators answering the phones until midnight eastern time so you're bound to get through at some time!! Good luck! :D

I did both. With my first e-mail I stated it had been forwarded and would they please let me know when it had arrived and the new case number. I received a reply in a couple of days that it had not yet been received.

I never heard anything else, so I decided to call. I called later in the evening when it was a free call with my cell phone company. I just put the phone on speaker and continued doing something else until I was connected. The first time took about 10 minutes. The second time about a week later it took another 10 minutes, but this time I was told my case number had been assigned and forwarded that day to the embassy! I forgot to ask what day they received it so I called back was connected in about two minutes and got this date.

All in all, my experience worked well calling later in the evening - better than e-mails.

The first 2 times I called, I was connected right away. But now every time I try to call before 8pm, they tell me to call later, so I wait and when I call again after that, I get connected pretty fast too. They always tell me my case hasn't been received there and that it can take up to 90 days!! :o

Last time I called I spoke with a very nice guy that told me that the amount of time it takes depends only on the CSC's backlog.

I emailed NVC 4 days ago but so far they haven't replied. ;)

OUR COMPLETE TIMELINE

Latest steps:

10/26/2006- Consulate receives case (seriously, one month to receive the case?? BS!), and packet 3 that I sent even before they had received the case.

01/23/2007- Second Interview. VISA granted!!!

01/29/2007- VISA arrived.... no envelope though. I'm gonna contact them and see what happened this time!

01/31/2007- I'll have to send them one last financial support evidence.

02/01/2007- Evidence sent

02/02/2007- Evidence received by Consulate

02/06/2007- Consulate sends envelope!

02/07/2007- Envelope received!!!

It should not matter, as long as you have all the info they needed to verify (the case number & sometimes they ask date of birth info).

Finally on my last day of 4th week, I got the case number from NVC. I got email response from NVC three hour before I called that they don't have our case yet. So, I guess calling is the best option for contacting NVC.
