How serious is NVC about original documents or certified copies. What do they mean by certified copies. I have nearly everything original except a few things. Do you think this will cause my case to be delayed. Anyone have any feedback on this????

Hi! It really depends on what documents they need. What are you specifically concerned about? Are you still in the petitioning stage? What form did you file?

I am worried about the divorce decree mostly as I only have a copy. I have IR/CR visa and it is about to be the phase where I have to send the documents to the NVC. I am going to be filing an I 260

You will need a CERTIFIED copy of your divorce decree for the interview stage at the embassy anyway. You may as well go to the courthouse and get a couple. You should only have to pay a small fee for them. I was under the impression that all documents sumbitted could be copies. In the I-130 it states "If either you or your spouse were previously married, submit copies of documents showing that all prior marriages were legally terminated". The instructions also state "If these instructions state that a copy of a document may be filed with this petition, send a copy. If you choose to send the original, USCIS may keep that original for our records. If the USCIC requires the original, it will be requested". Unless specifically asked for, send a copy. BUT if you want to be on the safe side, get 2 CERTIFIED copies, send one in, and bring the other to the embassy interview.

Good luck!
