My wife was all over the news this weekend from Ukraine. It seems likely that Tymoshenko is getting some special treatment in prison. The prison system refuses to allow her personal physician to examine her and she has a mysterious illness. Sounds a lot like the old KGB tactics.

And now her old ally, whom was benefited by her orange revolution seems to have turned on her. Probably because he doesn't want any soup from Yanokovic.

If true, these tactics/strategies will surely blow-up in Yanko's face. Ukraine is slipping back to a regime mentality. How can the working class and the poor afford the scheduled September 25% increase for electric service? Will the gas be turned-on in October? Such is democracy.

Hmmm. I recall this happening once before and it made for a very uncomfortable time.

Gary,

You are heading for Ukraine, so with your family you should be able to get some first hand information. But, to me, it is very suspicious that the court will not allow her to have her own physician check her out and test her blood. Based on all that is alleged to date, it is very understandable that she would not accept the court approved medical staff. So, if she's going to pay for her own health screening why the big deal. Unless you have something to hide.

Again, not surprising, but very sad nonetheless.

Russian news is reporting that she somehow ingested rat poison. I'll see what I hear in Ukraine. I hate to see this again. She has been on the outs with Yushenko for some time though.

They poisoned Yushenko, and Litvinenko just to name a few. Now that they have her in prison I wouldn't be surprised if they off her also. Look at Magnitsky.

Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Yeah, this is becoming a recurring theme. It seems that this is a day to day thing. My wife said that the presiding judge has a judicial history of two years and that he dealt mainly with drug cases. It is very possible that Yulia's attorneys are much sharper and knowledgeable than the judge. It sure doesn't sound like outside pressure is going to influence Ukraine in any way. And, from Yanukovich's point of view, if he kills off all the competition then he doesn't need to worry about anything. At least not as long as he can remain president.

Isn't this such a nice way of celebrating Ukraine's 20th anniversary of independence.

Reporting from far East Ukraine. The people here say "divide what you hear by 1000 to receive the truth" That's about it.

They have much more to say about Obama...

Roughly translated

"The earthquake moved Washington DC 10cm closer to Moscow, But Obama is trying to do better"

"Obama was happy when he heard the magnitude of the quake, 5.8, thinking it was his popularity numbers"

"the earthquake caused Senator John Kerry to drop a martini on his foot and he is asking for another purple heart"

Amazing, if you ask Americans if they have heard of Yulia Tymoshenko...

They are also having great fun with the news that Ghadafi was all hot for Condoleeza Rice (Condi Rice is not popular in east Ukraine, she was a big supporter of Yushenko and was seen as an instigator)Some of the things I will not repeat here for fear of an American/British/Canadian (we should call them the ABC countries) invasion of our forum. Suffice to say it loosely (or not so loosely) connects this type with the type of men American women attract.

The weather is great right now, there are 48 million super hot women in high heels outside (possible slight exagerration) and Alla wants to go for a walk! Wear are my sunglasses?

Seeing how Eastern Ukraine's loyalty lies with Moscow and not Ukraine I find that news no surprise. I bet they still worship their Lenin and Stalin statues while longing for the "good 'ol days" of the KGB.

It's common knowledge that as the Ukraine (East & West) economy continues to fall and commodity prices continue to rise disproportionately, of course many will look to the pre-democracy days as. a period that allowed them some affordability for their sustenance. Rent, bread, cheese, kulbasa, gas, electric, etc. What, will the good people of Ukraine now need 3 or 4 jobs to "just get by?" Only Venting.

It's pretty much the same in Belarus atm. Western Ukraine would be better off imo if they just split and formed their own country. Of all the Eastern European countries, the Rus countries have been the biggest failure after the collapse of the USSR. I don't know what it is with those people, but it's like if they aren't being stomped into the ground by their leaders they aren't happy. That's where Western Ukrainians differ from the rest of the Rus. They are a independent bunch of people who value their freedom unlike the rest of the brainwashed Lenin loving peasants.

That seems to be a consistent theme about Eastern Ukraine, so I was not really surprised by Gary's remarks.

It's common knowledge that as the Ukraine (East & West) economy continues to fall and commodity prices continue to rise disproportionately, of course many will look to the pre-democracy days as. a period that allowed them some affordability for their sustenance. It does seem to be funny that people long for the old days when they thought things were better, but really weren't. I'm sure that none of the younger people (under 35) want a return to those days.

The wife is so worried about Ukraine that it's beginning to affect her attitude. I'm just praying for a peaceful outcome to all that is happening to everyone on our planet. I sure hope things start to get better everywhere.
