Hello All,

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a joint sponsor's passport being expired for the I864. My dad does not have an official government issued birth certificate (only a hospital certificate) but does have multiple passports from his childhood that are now, of course, expired.

We are trying to send our AOS papers this week. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Which documents did he use to get a passport?

If he was born in the US, it is normal to have a hospital certificate. I have never heard of a gov-issued Birth certificate for the US.

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

Right, the hospital certificate is sent to the vital records office for the state and the state issues certified copies of it. There are, however, hospital certificates that are more "hairloom" type and are not legally usable--they usually have footprints of the baby, etc.

The OP has to make sure that the certificate he has is a certified copy issued by the birth state's vital records office. Some hospital certificates aren't valid; the legal original is sent to the state after it is signed.

Yes, I see I was thinking federal government and forgetting about state government. Anyway, yes, how did he get his passports in the first place? And why can't he order a new BC?
