Did you reach the free throw line?

no, got stuck in a sticky wicket

Use K-Y next time.

I thought that it was a war on poverty, not a war on Johnsons.

Is this some kind of pathetic Gambit to lure me into commenting on the

this threads topic? Im not some lybian rebel that just rode into town

I do believe it is a violation of toes to comment on a post that has been

removed. So I hope you are not using some stealth fighter technology

to do something like that.

A Gambit is a Gambian Hobbit, isn't it? I understand that new medical technology is going to Libya so that there won't be any more snores of Tripoli. I would never violate the TOS, that would do them a great disservice. I have no stealth technology, I can't see my way to using such devices, neither can anyone else. I have no angle to pursue, reflexing on it, maybe I do.

Thanks for the tip, Do I apply that directly to the wicket?

Let's see... so you are good to wear WM cloths and watch low quality flatscreen?

Do you also eat junk food and feed it to your family?

Okay, it happens. I personally won't eat junk food and I do not have a flatscreen at all, because I can't afford a good one and I won't put up with bad one. If only I could have my filet mignon on welfare, I'd be right there, in line to get it and many other people would be too.

How big of an apartment do you get for 5-6 kids via section 8? I'd hope for at least a 4 bedroom house with 3 baths and a yard. Do you get that via section 8? Oh, the utilities on that house would run high, so that must be where the disposable income goes.

Seeing that raising a child to 18 costs what, 250K? Do you think they get $250K per child in 18 years? That would make $250K*6kids/18years/12months in a year = $6.9K welfare check a month. Just for the kids.

Let's see:

Section 8 housing.

Welfare check.

Medicaid.

So your housing is virtually paid for. Your healthcare is paid for and then you have disposable income on top of that? You feed your kids Mac&Cheese and Hot Dogs. Buy them $3 shirts and $7 pants at Wal-Mart here and there. Yup, I've seen it alright.

These people a lot of times have bigger flat screens than I have!!!

To add: foodstamps are $200 for one person and $1050 for a family of 7 (adult + 6 kids).

Clearly not enough for healthy nutrition.

Despite what you may think, welfare recipients have not, and will never cost us as much as criminals, both in actual costs and societal costs. Criminals have no respect for the society they profess to love. They are not to be trusted, as is reflected in curtailing certain rights, as a precaution for the rest of society.

Care to back that up with any real numbers or are we simply going with your opinion?

You've obviously never been around the welfare folks. Everything is pro-rated. Rent, power, do you think they cut their own grass?

And the money per kid? That's pro-rated also.

That's a federal program. How about state programs too? See, you have to count EVERY dollar in there somewhere. Don't forget that's also augmented by child support and/or some other type of income. It's not like the poor, lonely mother of 6 has only $1050 to feed her family on for the entire month.

And even if she does... why can't she make that work?

If I was a single mother of 6, I certainly would not expect to cut my own grass!

Paul was trying to make the case that welfare folks get a nice lifestyle for doing nothing. True, I do not know many welfare folks, but I do know folks who tried to get on welfare (lost job and health issues) and realized that it was simply not worth it.

So, how much are the food stamps from any particular state? And what is the income limit to get them? Because federal limit is pretty harsh - no more than $2000 in assets and no more income than $1174 a month gross for one person (or $3605 for family of 7), that I believe includes child support.

Why can't a single mother feed a family of 7 on $1050 a month? Oh, I think they do! I think it involves hunting for best deals, buying in bulk and cooking 3 meals a day, often with products of substandard quality and with no second helpings... No filet mignon and probably not much fruits and veggies. It is simply NOT a luxurious and lazy lifestyle that Paul is imagining, that was my point.

You've forgotten to take into account things like free lunch at school and daycare programs. Three meals a day for six kids sounds like a lot, but when it's only two or even one, that food buck goes a long way.

Just for fun, next time the pay cycle rolls around (closest Friday to the 1st of the month) head down to the "nice area" of town and see what the carts are full of. You may be surprised (or appalled) that one of the three carts full of food is -

1. Being pushed by an able-bodied male who's NOT wearing a wedding ring

2. Being pushed by grandma while she rolls around in her power chair

3. also full of future "all stars" (more babies)

4. full of nicer food than what's in your cart

Be further surprised (or appalled) when the "separate order" at the end of the $650 worth of food is for beer, cigarettes, (hot) fried chicken, minutes for phones, dvds and a bottle of champagne.

Lastly, you can really be surprised when you see grandma, her daughter, one of the baby daddies (or gma's son who's not in jail) and their six kids pile into a new minivan or a combination of gma's cadillac and the baby daddy's donk sittin on 27s. Them rims be spinnin them rims be spinnin!

Don't be silly. What you are suggesting is that a kid runs up a tab of $1,150.00 a month, every month until they turn 18. That's bull. That figure might hold true in the first few years - prior to the kid starting school - when you have f/t daycare expenses which run up more than half that figure. But then if you're not working and on welfare, there's no need for f/t daycare. Just the extra living space, clothing and healthy diets do not cost all that much for a child. Seriously.

OK, so they say it's actually $227K. I personally think it is utterly bogus - you can raise a child to 18 yo on much less. Now if you factor in all the indirect costs, then may be it costs that much...

There's a HUGE difference in people who have worked hard and then try to go on welfare after the fact versus people who've spent their whole lives on the system.

Remember, my whole point has been cradle to grave and the ability.

Remember, when everything you need is taken care of and then you have disposable income on top of that.

There are literally people out there who get section 8, medicaid, food stampls, W.I.C., and a welfare check every month. When most of your primary ####### is taken care of, you'd be surprised what you can 'afford.'

Drive around some of the really poor neighborhoods sometimes and you'll see run down houses, but nicer cars, nike sneakers, etc. It's actually pathetic sometimes.

remember, all of that is being paid for by the taxpayer dime for these people.

Medicaid eliminates health care costs, W.I.C. eliminates needing to pay for milk, formula, and certain foods while they are babies/kids. school reduced and/or free lunch programs, etc. You can buy school uniform shirts at Wal-Mart for less than $10/each and Wrangler kids jeans for $12-$14 each.

when you look at those "costs" you are talking about, they do not apply to the cradle to grave part of society.

Well, perhaps they do, but WE are the ones paying for it. Not them.

Oh, I could not claim to know ALL the bennies they can get (although, I can imagine that school lunches in poor areas must be unhealthy #######). All I know, I was looking into it and there is no way I could make it in their world.

I have seen food stamp people getting into nice cars when I was not even close to be eligible and did not have a car... made me upset at the time. Then I realized, may be it is not their car, but a borrowed car. Saw them taking a taxi from the grocery store, when I was carrying a backpack with food (could not afford a taxi) - and then realized, the lady was much older than me, may be she'd break her back if she tried to walk and carry. Bottom line, people who are not in that system often make a lot of wrong assumptions.

As for the wedding ring comment - it is silly. No everyone has to be married to their partners and not every married man wears a ring. Nothing wrong with it either.

You've forgotten to take into account things like free lunch at school and daycare programs. Three meals a day for six kids sounds like a lot, but when it's only two or even one, that food buck goes a long way.
