These illegal raids don't always have warrants. Those that do (at least the one's in the media) often have a clerical error - ie. wrong address or wrong name, same name wrong identity.

In theory, if the police are following protocol they should recognize the error once its pointed out before storming the house...but honestly if they didn't I'd be tempted to slam the door and reach for my shotgun.

To me the humiliation of strangers rampaging through my house and breaking things is worse than death hence I would choose the latter.

The good news for you is dynamic entry takes about six seconds from start to finish so unless you have a really big place that would take a few extra seconds to clear, you probably wouldn't have time to get your shotgun and be killed in the process.

No my place is very small. If it was during the day time or early hrs of the night you would probably be right.

I swear upon my life that I would not freely allow the police into my home without an accurate warrant. Now would they barge in anyway with me doing nothing? It depends on the time of day. I'm not going to open my door to anyone after 10pm unless they are a friend etc. And if someone starts pounding on the door at some odd hour of the night I will arm myself and not open the door at all.

I wouldn't have a choice. Those home invasions searches are designed to be so fast there's no chance for resistance. Even someone like me or Sousuke who has a shotgun at the ready probably wouldn't have time to get off the couch and get it shouldered and the sad fact is if there's a weapon present - even if there's no threat - typically shots are fired. "He was going for his gun." (They leave off the part about it being three feet away.)

Give it a try. Sit there dozing off while watching the TV or messin around on VJ and jump up really quick, grab your gat, and engage a simulated threat. With practice, you could do it in just a few seconds, but just a few seconds is all it takes for them to be on you.

If the police were asking to come in I'd pull that French Routine at the end of Monty Python's The Holy Grail. That would work them up to just get a darn warrant if they had probable cause. Otherwise, no answer either.

If for some odd reason they barged in, well... I'm staying alive so I can sue later.

Its' hard for any of us to say what we would or would not do.

I've answered the door more than a few times to the police and it's been different every time. But, that's vastly different than a search warrant or raid. If they knock (and wait for an answer) they're playing nice. It behooves you to do so as well, especially if they have a good warrant.

Yeah if they just break in, I don't see how I could respond other than do my best to recall everything in court later.
