The US simply cannot continue to provide health care, food stamps, etc to the poor. There will come a day when the system crashes. Would we not be better off by tightening the noose NOW by putting an income requirement and/or asset requirement on the right to have a child ...

If the end goal is to stop providing benefits to the poor, why not take the path of least resistance and simply continue the current Republican jihad against entitlement programs? The jihad not progressing fast enough for you because of all those pesky Democrats and the even peskier aholes they vote to represent them? Good luck getting past that hurdle any quicker with a crazy (yes, it is) scheme like this. Unless of course, it is democracy itself you have a problem with.

What are you pissed about? You have a job, you'd qualify for a child license without any problems.

You sound like a Global warming kind of guy, they say we have too many people but won't kill any. SO I guess they want to stop making more. Right? :P

There is a simple soultion, as always

1. NO ONE collects welfare unless they are enrolled in school or have a job, at least part time

2. Once on welfare, NO increases for any additional children conceived afterwards. Free birth control of any type is available to welfare recipients

3. NO ONE drops out of school before age 18 or a high school diploma is earned

4. NO ONE collects welfare unless they have a high school diploma or are enrolled in school

5. NO ONE under age 21 gets a drivers license oif they do not have a high school diploma or are not enrolled in school.

I wonder which politicians will be against giving people the tools they need to be independent.

The OP is extremely Orwellian clearly. With the above post, I do not really get 3 and 5. Neither relate directly to welfare. IMO once someone becomes 16, they are free to make their own decisions without government interference. A high school drop out does not necessarily become dependent. I've known a few that make a live able income by knowing a specific trade. Of course, if they had no license they wouldn't be able to work as they drive on the job.

3 and 5 are unnessisary because of No.1 (No. 1 also makes 4 redundant...just stick with 1 and 2)

I think that reproduction should be considered a privilege. People are generally not going to force another to not reproduce, but potential parents should strongly consider whether they are emotionally, financially, and physically qualified to raise a child. I also think that people on welfare or using any social program should be compelled to be on birth control. Why? We have an overpopulation problem and I am seeing way too many folks that are unfit to raise a child having children. Ultimately, this means more people on social benefits and an increase in uneducated Americans.

Many would argue that both rich and poor have the right to bear children, I am seriously beginning to believe that there should be an income level requirement to have a child. Just as I have openly stated that the income level for sponsorship of a K-Visa application is way too low, I think there should be an income level requirement to have a child. I have read about so many failed relationships on VJ or so many issues where a child is clearly not in a safe and healthy environment. Time after time, "finances," or better put... lack of finances are the main ingredient to the destruction of a relationship and/or a child living below poverty levels. It's not the parents I am really concerned with, though we do need to stop sustaining adults with all these social welfare programs. I am more concerned about the children and well, simply put, future children. Every child should have the "right" to grow up to be a healthy and productive adult. The path we are on as a society is really getting out of control. We really are on a path of having a bunch of uneducated, unproductive future adults due to the poor decisions adults are making/given today. Should this right be taken away for the benefit of the potential children not having to live a life in poverty?

One day a line needs to be drawn in the sand on when is too much. I.e. The US simply cannot continue to provide health care, food stamps, etc to the poor. There will come a day when the system crashes. Would we not be better off by tightening the noose NOW by putting an income requirement and/or asset requirement on the right to have a child, for the benefit not only of the potential child, and the finicial situation of the potential parents, but also the benefit of our country?

Where is it that you're living that has a population problem?

almost every country in the western world is in historic population declines... so much so that they have had to import the kids they never had... to keep things going.

I think restricting even welfare queens from having children is going about it all wrong.

If the program is rewarding stupid behavior , change the program. (easy enough)

To grant gov't such power would not end with just welfare Queens.

Maybe the population decline is somewhere in the US I haven't been to. Here on the West cost the population is booming and I don't think there's anything great about that myself. Houses and neighborhoods, stores, etc... where it used to be farms.

Why must we over populate the world, and then read tear jerker stories about the world not having enough food.

I read more lame ####### excuses on this board for supporting welfare leeches and illegals than any site on the net.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Does this mean were going to see a decline of strip malls, tract housing and hood rats?

With as many as I see empty, I would think so.

As communities go downhill people relocate to the next suburb for a decade or two until it's time to move on again.

I can name whole malls or shopping centers which sit empty.... the city can't buy them all ya know.

+1 I've actually read so many stories on this site about people who have no business petitioning for folks getting married etc. I mean, how can someone say, "If I am getting welfare benefits or free healthcare, etc do I need a co-sponsor?" Really???

People also get upset when someone steps in and makes a comment about someone not being ready for marriage when they have never met their fiance. 50%+ of marriages end in divorce. When a 22 and a 19 year old who met on a gaming site, have never worked a day in their life, and have never even met before in person are talking about marriage... in my view we have just guaranteed ourselves that we now have a new couple that will be receiving welfare in the next 3-5 years... perhaps a family of 3 or 4 on welfare if they decide to have kids.

There are serious problems with the immigration laws, but ending all social programs really takes care of everything. Without the social programs not so many people will really want to be here. Heck the only reason I'm here is because I have kids. Once they finish college I guarantee you I will take my future spouse and move to South America.... unless I go find somewhere out in the country/mountains in the middle of no where that pleases me more.

Why must we over populate the world, and then read tear jerker stories about the world not having enough food.
