Mobile/non-mobile selection applied to all browsers for user

On my Android phone, I sometimes have to explicitly select the mobile version of the site as this is not detected reliably. However, when I visit VJ on my laptop or desktop, the site is formatted using the mobile layout. This suggests that the mobile/non-mobile selection is persisted server-side with other settings for the user. I think the selection should, instead, be stored client-side, say, in a cookie. This way, a user can maintain their selection of the mobile layout only on their phone, while using the standard layout elsewhere.

If automatically selected (detection of mobile browser) it will soft change and not affect a desktop selection. I think when you hard select then it affects all sessions on both devices...

my theory at least.

Yes, you are correct based on my observations. However, sometimes I have to explicitly select as the browser detection doesn't always seem to work. Also, once I explicitly select, it's not clear to me how to "clear" this setting so the automatic detection can take over. Perhaps invalidating the session by logging out does that? I'm not sure, but the former issue is the one that forces me to explicitly select the layout type which puts me in this jam.
