First of all, thanks VJ and its members for everything. this newb has learned a lot here. But i still have a few things I could use some help on:

I am about to file for AOS in a month. On my applications I have submitted the front pages of my passport and copies of visa that was stamped back in 2003. The thing is I lost my passport with I94 on it back in 2006, had a police report made, got a new one made for both. So the copies of the pp is from the new one while the copy of the visa is from the old one. I have included a letter saying what happened and attached a police report i made. is this good enough or do I need to add something here?

I am about to file late income tax. I don't owe or am owed anything for that year so I never cared to file. will this have any effect on my application since one of the forms specifically asks if i ever skipped or didn't care to file Form 1099 and I have marked 'NO'? I sure hope this doesn't come to bite me.

We have been having problems with mis-delivered/undelivered mails lately. Is there any way I can ask them to send all/any of my mails at a different address? I am not moving out so the change of address doesn't apply here. The last thing I want is for them to send me a RFE letter and me not knowing at all it was sent.

I am representing myself so I hope you understand my confusion.

It's unclear from your text whether you applied for and received a new I-94. If so, doing what you said should work fine. If you do not have an original I-94, it would be a good idea to get one before proceeding.

Are you sponsoring yourself on a I-864? If so, file the return first and then you can state that you have filed all of your 1040s. I'm not sure what specific question to which you're referring, but file the return before you do anything. If you're not sponsoring yourself on an I-864, your tax returns are not of concern.

I don't think so. If you've been having problems, talk to your local post office to see what's going on. If you sign up for case status updates, you'll know when something is mailed (some of the time, perhaps).

Thank you CC90. Yes I have already received a new I-94.

No, I am not sponsoring myself. My in-laws are. i was wondering if my mistake of not filing my income tax was going to hurt me anywhere during my AOS.

I will definitely check with the post office. thanks.

"Good moral character" does not have to be shown for AOS--just for naturalization. As long as you're not sponsoring yourself, it is not material.

Since you missed a return, though, you will experience a delay/problems with naturalization. When that time comes, talk with a lawyer to figure out when you will be eligible.

Your efforts to replace lost documents sounds good to me.

Your late taxes will not be a problem, and your efforts to file are good. The form is called a 1040 :)

Regarding poor mail service, you can open a post office box or ask that your mail be held and you come pick it up. You could also chat with your local post office and ask why there's a problem.

Good luck!

AOS for my husband
