I don't have kids for a reason. I hate taking care of people. I didn't marry my wife to take care of her and when she puts me in that position it absolutely floors me.

I know you're not making it up. And that's what's even more disturbing about it.

My wife would never paint her face. Unless the paint cost $200 and was imported from France. "Foooo. I not will be put zis horrible nasty stuff on my beautiful face and mess up my skin. Do you event know how long I make for world such beauty?"

I think it's more than slightly disturbing.

I have no problem with that when a woman marries an older man. My wife is less than a year younger than me and yet she wants someone to take care of her.

When I'm 50, I may marry a 20 year old. In that case, fine. But, as is. No.

"We're not in...." is a great answer.

Alla and I are not that far apart in age. I would not be old enough to be her father and have no interest in 20 somethings.

I might add that it is mutual and Alla takes care of me too. She eats my ice cream so I do not get too fat.

Same here. Love my nephews and nieces, but neither of us is interested in having some pink blob rule our lives for the next 20-something years. Fortunately when my wife finishes her Masters, she'll be in a great position to take care of ME. Heck I might even retire early!

Well yeah. I was being diplomatic.

I disagree but to each his own and if you aren't willing and happy to devote your life to other people for more than 20 years (you can't have just one) then don't do it!

I think Alla's feelings come from both growing up without a father and from her very traditional ideas of man and woman roles. It isn't an incest game, so no disturbance is needed

It never ceases to amaze me how RUB women are so much a woman on one hand yet such little girls on the other.

"Stop pouting. No you can't have that because they don't have it here. I don't care if that's what you want, they don't serve it. A woman in a mini skirt and 4" heels shouldn't stomp her feet and yell obscenities in public. It's just not right. Don't throw that at me. Stop hitting me with your purse. Stop it. No I won't give you cab fare." Ah... the joys of being married to a six year old.

Kira's pretty good about that...now. She wasn't like that in Belarus, but copt a tude when she got here. I put an end to that ####### right away. I even pulled the truck over once on the way home from the bar (middle of winter) and told her I would walk or get a cab but I wasn't going to listen to her bs anymore. It was something about the bartender fckng up her drink time and again. So I told her to just order a vodka with water back seeing how they can't screw that one up.

She mellowed out a lot now since she got here.

This is the part where you have to be the "father" Alla tells me that I have to be her husband, her lover, and her father all in one and that I am supposed to indulge any fantasies, wishes, desires, hopes, dreams AND give her half my ice cream. And NO I am not making that up.

And YES she would also paint her face, she may not be the one to think it up but she would jump right in with Kira on that.

Although technically I'm old enough to be Kira's "Papa" (I love the way that sounds  ), when I tell her to come sit on Papa's lap she usually just looks at me like "f u"....depending on the mood of course.

Ecuatorianas (mine, anyway) take the ice cream without asking and get everything else they want by flashing big puppy-dog eyes and saying, "Sometimes, husbands give their wives a [fill in blank, sigh man]," si man.

An ice cream for her today could mean a bj for you tonight...at least that's my reasoning. :star:

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

She's doing graphic design. She was going to be a fashion designer but I reminded her there are absolutely ZERO of those here in our city.

I know her plan. She's going to get to the last semester and say, "if I take these three courses I can do fashion design."

I say encourage her to do what she really wants to do. If there are no fashion designers in your area, then she'd corner the market if she started a small business.

I can already see it. This is going to be a great opportunity for us to bond and be close. To work on something together... and for her to get a degree based on my hard work.

I think you'll be surprised at how fast she picks it up. She might need a boost from you right now, but that is going to taper off fast.

I took exactly three classes of the "how to study for college" course at University of Phoenix. When we had more meetings to plan for our meetings than we did actual class, that was enough for me. "But we give you team-building skills and the capability to work on projects in the real world." Yeah, because I need a college course to teach me how to meet with people in order to learn how to study. Thanks, UOP. Thanks, but no thanks.

I can't speak for online universities. I know they provide opportunities for people who otherwise wouldn't be able to do it, but I've read some papers about how the quality of instruction can really vary at online schools. Many of the instructors are pulled in on a contract basis and have no formal background in teaching. It's a ####### shoot for the most part. Your bad experience could have very well been a great experience in another class or semester. It's really unfortunate for people like you that get turned off on the experience.

We're paying a ton of money right now to put Victoria through one of the best law schools in the country. Not because I believe that she will learn more than a lesser school, but because I believe the consistency of the instruction makes all the difference. I don't know if you're in a position to pay for a good school, but if you can then I think you'll be a lot happier.

“Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous half-possession. That which each can do best, none but his Maker can teach him.” — Emerson

A biceps jerk? A Belvedere Jehosephat? Lest we forget, Mrs. T-B. directs 99.44% of her energies to serving as 24-Hour Dairy Farm to young Mini-Bone, who is NOT sleeping through the night and has just begun to crawl (and terrorize the cat, with whom he is fascinated -- if Mini-B. could talk, he'd say, "Mommy, I want THAT toy!").

It's interesting how incompatibly Mrs. T-B. & I approach the eating and maintenance of ice cream. As God & country intended, I carefully scrape around the edges and then toward the middle, which creates a gradually diminishing but largely symmetrical plateau of ice cream within the container. Conversely, Mrs. T-B. plows right in, leaving gaping craters that take a lot of reconstructive effort to restore the symmetry, see man. I can tell when she has done this, because of the off-balance "heft" of the container when I take it from the freezer. Sometimes, she leaves just a spoonful's worth in the container, instead of eating all of it. (Note to Self-Bone: Check on possibly relevant criminal or civil statutes, see man.)

When confronted, Mrs. T-B. either looks blankly innocent or flashes the puppy-dog eyes and says in little-girl voice, "Sometimes, husbands let their wives eat all the ice cream." I just wish that she would TELL me when she has done so, so that I can restock the larder in non-crisis mode, gee man. Our appointment with the marital counselor over this fundamental incompatibility is either a week from next Leap Year or on the Tooth of Octember (note to Self-Bone: Must check calendar, see man), si man.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Customers are needed for small businesses to be successful.

Actually, when she first came here (and even sometimes still) I recommend she open a custom clothing store for nice dresses and fashionable designs. She can sew like the dickens and she's good at putting together outfits. The girls here would love her. Her response, "but they have no money, honey."

Those of us with RUB wives never have this problem. Nyet, Man. We really do not know how they scoop the ice cream because when they are done they leave it on the kitchen counter next to the milk and meat, potato salad and stinky fish. It melts and when we come along before bedtime and put everything back in the refrigerator/freezer...VOILA! Perfectly symmetrical ice cream! Maybe THAT's why they do it!

In fact, this is what happened initially -- I'm complaining about the "trained" wife now!

Oh, man, si man. Other Americanos who are married to South Americans (of either sex) are mystified at how their immigrant spouses can leave open pots of, say, rice out on the stove for days and DAYS. There have also been some very interesting "science experiments" incubating in the refrigerator, pee-yoo man. I'm surprised that all of us have avoided botulism, man.

Here's another: In a thread in another forum, probably last year, folks were discussing how their immigrant SOs were adjusting to domestic life. One chica was married to a Peruvian guy. She noted, "When I ask him to clean the floor, he ignores all my high-tech brooms and mops in favor of a rag on a stick." I wrote back and said, "Yours does this, TOO?" It was quite funny, ha man.

Do RUBbettes do the same, or differently, or flatly refuse, or do it only while wearing high heels, or order their husbands to do it instead, or insist upon hiring someone, or other, huh man?

I must be really weird for a Russian  I had an actual mop back in Russia for years and in my family people always would put everything to the fridge. In fact... I don't think I know anybody, who wouldn't. I know Gary always talks about it, but it's just so weird to me.

The onlything is that Russians don't keep their bread in the fridge. Russian bread can't be good for weeeks anyways, just for a couple of days.

Don't be offended...but you always seem more like an American than you do a Russian on here. For a long time I thought you were the USC.

Where I live, everyone takes a broom and then puts a rag with a hole in it or an old tshirt over the part with bristles, so yeah.

Alla's mom does it this way but Alla does it with just a fabric on her hands and knees and a bucket of water, which is kind of the same thing with no stick. The MIL is old enough that she prefers the help of a broom.
