Thanks guys, appreciate the clarity.

(and of course i meant to type infopass not path...)

One last question, and apologies if I seem obtuse, but i just want to be clear - can I request an infopass appointment to file an AP based on emergency medical grounds, before I have submitted or am waiting on the AOS NOA1?

Unfortunately since I posted my first post below, my dad (who lives in BC, Canada) has suffered a heart attack and today was told he needs to be flown to Vancouver for a triple bypass. I only ask the question above, as we're waiting for our certified marriage certificates to be sent back, then i need to submit the 485 and then wait for the NOA to be issued. That could take a week plus, and I'd rather get moving quicker if possible, as I want/need to see him before the op.

As if i didnt have enough to worry about.... :(

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

You can file your AOS package without the marriage certificate and will get an RIE (request for initial evidence, as opposed to RFE). They could also choose to just reject the package outright.. honestly depends on the drone sorting your package.

I would personally have the paperwork ready to go and go make and INFOPASS. I would ask them about an expedited AP if you were to file then and there but technically you're supposed to file at chicago so i don't know if they'd accept it. If you file the G-1145 at the same time it'll take around 2 weeks to get that text with the NOA1 number. You would then need to apply for the expedite.

A friend on here applied for the expedite due to a family member dying. She got approved no problem (with medical evidence) but for some reason it took a week or two to arrived and she got it on the day of the funeral. Whilst I don't want to be morbid, you may need to discuss whether you're willing to wait for AP, or not. My father isn't of the best health and I left knowing that. I discussed with my family the "what if's" and came to terms with the possibility that I wouldn't be there in his last moments. Thankfully he's still with us, but I'm hoping Tony can meet him before the time comes.
