Question about ROC

My husband came here on CR1 in October of 2009. We completed our ROC paperwork and sent it to VSC. They cashed the check just a couple days ago and my husband called me at work today and said he got a letter saying they approved him for a 1 year greencard and biometrics info would follow. I am confused. I thought he would get a 10 year green card. I am not complaining because evidently there will be no interview, but I don't want to have to pay the $590 again in a year. Anyone have any ideas what happened here? Thanks!!

that's an extension of the 2 year GC that he has, since it will expire before the process has been finished, he has the letter to extend the GC for 1 more year.

he can work and travel due to the extension, after the 2 year GC has expired, until he receives the 10 year GC, if everything goes well.

that's standard process.

When you apply they give you a written extension of one year to your current two year card. That is what this is. He can use it to travel and work until they send his new green card which will be valid for 10 years. Not to worry.

You may or may not have an interview before the 10 year card is issued.
