Mecca Grand Mosque Starts $21 Billion Expansion Project, Arab News Reports

Saudi Arabia started an 80 billion- riyal ($21 billion) project to expand the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Arab News reported, citing Finance Minister Ibrahim al-Assaf.

The mosque’s capacity will increase to 2.5 million people, the Jeddah-based newspaper said. The cost includes funds to compensate to owners of real estate appropriated for the project, according to the report.
