It never fails. There is always someone on VJ that thinks they can cut corners. What do you think? The NBI is requested but not necessary? You think they will just look the other way? :bonk:

and, You are asking God to help you cheat the system? Jeez! You knew it was expired in February but you decide not to renew 'cause you "hope" they won't question the date!

Kudos! That's a brilliant plan.

[/q

It's not expired...I got it February 2011 and it's still valid till February 2012

Then why are you worrying? As long as it's not expired then you're good to go.

Unfortunately, I think they will. You could have committed A LOT of crimes since February 2011...

But apparently when they do tell you to get an updated one, you can go somewhere, stand in line for 6 or 7 hours and get a new NBI in the same day. My fiance claims to have done this, and mailed it to the embassy through 2GO all in the same day. However, I also think this has delayed her visa issuance. That all took place on August 4th, and to date (8/22/2011), she has NOT received her visa. I cant get anything from customer service except that her Passport is still in the Embassy. We are clueless as to what could be the hold up. Good luck.

No. They won't. You have to obtain a new copy (if you don't have any more) for your visa interview.

No problem.

Just curious, why do you have to get a copy of NBI clearance with your maiden name on it? Is that their new policy now?

In my case, no. I didn't have to have one with my maiden name.

Yes, when you fill up the NBI form, you will be asked to write all your names on it.

:secret: You know Charles told us to stop bickering with each other. Remember? He's gonna put both of us on a "post ignore". What fun will that be if we can't pick at each other sometimes.

yes, and i'd also suggest you offer useful advice instead of browbeating the op.

hello ! just curious, what about your NBI clearance? I do have an NBI clearance (for Travel purpose) issued last May 2011 yet, would this still be accepted ? planning to get interview date around October 2011. Please advice... I'm just worried coz I knew that NBI clearance is quite not easy to get renewal now. Thanks and all the best ! (F)

NBI clearance is good for a year, there's no need for you to get a new one if your interview date is on October of this year.

Mine's dated February 2011 and my interview is this week already. I live in the province and it will take 1 month to get a new NBI. I'm just praying i will get lucky and the Consul won't question the date of my NBI. :(

You don't need a new one. Read your NBI clearance carefully, it says there, valid for one year from the date of issue.

Almost the EXACT same situation...

My fiance showed up to her interview with an NBI for the name she lived with for her entire life. Her middle name was incorrect on her birth certificate, and she got her corrected one less than 4 weeks before her interview. The CO said our case "looked good", but that she needed to get an NBI for her corrected name. She did. Stood in lines for over 6 or 7 hours, but she got it done in the same day - just like you.

This was on August 4th. To date, she has NOT received her visa and we have heard NOTHING from 2GO or the Embassy. In fact, this past Friday, I called the Embassy to get an update or find out what the hold up is. Unfortunately, the "screen readers" at the customer-service line can't/won't tell me anything, and refuse to transfer me to anyone who can help.

Our case is easy too - we had well-documented proof of having known each other for more than 11 years. Neither of us have any police records. She passed the Medical tests... We have no idea what could be the hold up! I have scheduled a vacation for August 31st - September 14th. I'll probably have to call in a few days to try to cancel my vacation. And at this rate, I may need to cancel her flight too.

I don't know what number you called but this was my experience. This was my 2cnd call

CALL CENTER HOURS AND CONTACT INFORMATION

The Embassy’s call center numbers for information and appointment scheduling are: (02) 902-8930 and (02) 982-5555. For calls from the continental United States, dial (214) 571-1600. The call center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Manila time, Monday through Friday.

I used the above 214 number. They asked for the mnl #, full name ect. they listened politely to my concerns. which I explained in detail. She was ending the call and I said wait a minute.

Can you tell me why I called? I explained I wanted to be sure we were communicating.

She said I was calling to see if St lukes had sent the records yet.

I stopped her with "WRONG" then I explained again.

she said hold please

Then she told me to go to the embassy web site look under contact info and use the number

for the non immigrant visa section.

I said "am I not talking to the embassy"? She said yes but we are the scheduling something yada yada and they cant help me. I didnt say it but I thought "why didnt you tell me that 20 minutes ago" or better yet the girl that I talked to for 40 minutes a couple days ago could have told me that.

anyway they list a 1-888 number for non immigrant visas which simply dosnt work.

So I dropped down to the immigrant visa number and called that, 63 2 301-2000

in the simple maze that followed I chose immigrant visa on a hunch and the lady that answered said I was in the right place. I explained the situation in less than two minutes. She asked me to hold and was she was gone a couple of minutes, came back and said ok we got it. the reason it wasn't attached to her file was that it arrived at the embassy a couple of days before the file did.

She said she will pass it on to the guy in charge of it and the Visa will be sent out.

So we lost a couple days, but all's well that ends well

The girls at the 214 phone # are trained to blow you off. That was my impression anyway

It's very interesting to see how strict some consuls are with respect to the NBI clearance. This must be true if the beneficiaries have never gone outside the country or some other stronger proof of clean police records. I got affected by the change in NBI process (1 month before it can be released if you have a 'hit' on your name) so I did not have the right NBI clearance on my interview date of Aug 12. I submitted an NBI clearance that I obtained for domestic employment dated April 25, 2011. I was asked by the pre-screener and the last lady who were checking my documents if that's all I have but the consul clearly disregarded it. He saw it, checked my name and proceed with "you're granted a visa". I have been in the US for 5 years, and that was all he cared about. He looked for my previous immigration papers, did not even care about my fiance's/petitioner's current unemployment status. I'm glad he looked at my overall situation and not for a mere lack of NBI clearance.

Same here. I tried calling a couple of times, and pretty much got a run-around, after spending like 20-30 minutes on the phone. Very frustrating.
