sex before marrying ?

Would you buy a new car without taking it for a test drive?....

No.

But that does nothing to convince me that I should have had sex before marriage. A person is not a car nor an object. The sole purpose for a car is driving/transportation so you do need to know what you are buying. Sex is not the only purpose of marriage. And there have been plenty of successful marriages where there was no 'test driving' before marriage.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I don't know what the argument is about, really.

But I do see the "higher divorce rates because we're going at it like rabid weasels" argument being used.

Isn't divorce just more socially acceptable nowadays so people realize they don't have to be stuck in an awful marriage and file for divorce?

I'm thinking about all those young women who want to feel like Pwincess for a day and fall in love with the idea of marrying some guy. I'm thinking about all those parents who want their daughter to have a splashy white wedding and almost force young people to get married for the wrong reasons. I'm thinking about how society (think about how only married couples would get certain tax benefits etc. before) pushes people into marrying for all the wrong reasons.

How many of us are on here who only got "married" because according to immigration laws, that was the only solution for us?

I'm rambling but I hate hearing that argument.

Hate it, if you want, but it's an undeniable part of the equation, no matter why you marry. If you feel forced to marry because of immigration, you may want to rethink that too. I'd hate for you to become a statistic.

LOL ok, whatever dude. Have fun with your VJ journey.

I feel forced to marry because of immigration. I just don't think of marriage the same way you do. For a social scientist, your inability to think outside the box is alarming. It also makes it particularly bizarre that you keep criticizing others for thinking according to the norms of our society. You obviously can't think outside your own religious norms.

My answer is that after immigration law we have to marry

We are both very happy about this because we can then stay together fore life.

We are both almost 50 and shame on you if you will see this as a bad behavior

Ever had sex in an uncomfortable car? Cars can serve many purposes besides transportation, and those things should be considered as well before purchase. ...

I never stated sex was the only reason for marriage, but it does play a huge role...

And to add to your point...There are probably just as many failed marriages because sex was lousy or nonexistent...

I won't argue with you on the last part even though I think there are far more factors leading to divorce than simply that. But with the divorce rate the way it is, it seems no matter whether people wait or not will affect the statistics if they don't have a solid relationship in all other areas as well. So I don't think there needs to be a test drive to ensure success, and if there is a test drive I'm not saying it cannot be a successful marriage. But it should never be assumed that you have to test drive in order to be happy. For a car, maybe, but not for a person (in my opinion at least).

Following that logic, couples who married after test driving have no excuse for divorcing.

maybe the car is wore out from all the test drives
