Hi everyone.

I took a while to put everything together correctly and today I can finally say that my journey has started. I can't describe the great feeling it was to send all our papers today.

If you believe in God, Buddha, Allah, The Spaghetti Monster, or your god is the Chupacabras please put a special prayer tonight for us. Now I am officially part of the whole visa drama family.

Thank you all in advance for your prayers.

Good luck! This process is fairly easy as long as you have good communication with your partner about what needs to be done and you follow the instructions. :) And don't check USCIS' website every day, because it'll drive you insane.

Welcome to the "long wait" that is fiance visa processing. :)

While you're waiting, you might want to advise your fiance to start making a list of the future requirements for the next stage. Thinking about police reports, any vaccinations that are required by CDC that s/he hasn't had and building up an additional evidence file of ongoing relationship between you from submission date to the interview date.

Remember that, if you're like the rest of us, America is going to be a long way from home, so your fiancee should start spending lots of time with family and friends, making sure they know how to use some kind of videochat program so she can stay in touch once she arrives, thinking about what she wants to do when she gets here and doing some research on the area you live in.

It might be a long wait, but it doesn't have to feel THAT bad. Keep busy and it'll pass in the blink of an eye.

Make sure you join the Vietnam regional forum on VJ, there's a whole lot of great folks who can give you Embassy specific tips and advice. Good luck with your journey. :)

Jacob - Congratulations on taking the first step. One thing you should know is that the Consulate in HCMC is one of the toughest in the world. As such, spend some time reading the Vietnames forum as it will prepare you. My advice is prepare for the worst when it comes to the interview stage and if you can, try to be there for interview. If you have questions we are here to help.

Best wishes!

Fellow VJ Community - In most places getting visas is an easy process but in Vietnam is different. As a result, giving the OP the sense that's easy is not the best thing to do. You mean well no doubt but if you don't know how things work in Vietnam please refrain from making such statements.

Best wishes!

Congrats!!! Make sure your lady knows everything about you and your family. the interview can be tough but if she knows all the answers and looks the CO in the eye and smiling, she will do fine. Also make sure you have hers and yours 10 years of residency when you go to interview.

Best of luck, Rich& Sayha
