OK. Now probably a dumb question but my husband filed an I-864EZ. He will send me his W-2 for the past 3 yrs. He is my only sponsor. He stays alone in USA. He has distant relatives there. Is an I-864 needed? If yes who should I consider as the co-sponsor? He falls above the poverty guidelines given. I am planning to carry a copy of the I-864EZ that he has filed. Will that be sufficient?

If I am right, your husband was a resident (resident status is not like a student status). Since his wages during the past 3 years are good, his I-864EZ should be good enough. I guess he submitted his IRS Tax transcripts with his I-864EZ, so taking copies of his W-2s is good.

If you are able to get a co-sponsor, take a I-864 from the co-sponsor to interview - just to be safe. Otherwise also, you should be fine.

ok. yes he was a resident. It will be very difficult for us to find a co-sponsor. I hope things go smoothly for us.

hi guys,

Its been long time since i visited this forum, my wifes' interview is on the 23rd of this months at mumbai embassy and just wondering what documents need to be turned in to VFS and how early can you submit it?

Also, this is for people who interviewed at Mumbai consulate, did you guys have to submit or show to the consular the copies of I130, DS230 or I864? I don't have the copies of the stuff sent to NVC but have the forms saved(no signatures) so can i print out the forms send it to my wife?????.

Take a look at the last page of your interview letter (also see the last two pages of this post, where I gave all the documents that need to be submitted at VFS). I do hope that someone that had been to Mumbai consulate (Dave and Kinnari) will respond. As far as the copies of I-130, I-864 and DS-230, we all took those to interview and as far as I remember, nobody looked at those - so don't worry about those.

All Indian Consulates are almost similar except for Delhi, who insist on everything to be submitted at VFS (sometimes even the medical report). All the best with your interview.

Looks good except for Marraige Certificate, which should have been marked with Y and not F. Your marraige certificate marked with F (F means that this form is not necessary for this application). I guess you submitted the Original of your marraige certificate with DS-230. Probably a wrong marking by NVC.

hi wts another marraige certificate this my 1st marraige i have copy i sent nvc marraige certificat

You misunderstood my communication - I know it is your first marraige (otherwise there would be a marraige termination certificate in the list of documents). Just to clarify, we managed to get two certficates of marraige, just in case NVC looses one.

Dave I'm in the same boat as you are. I also had arrange marriage and I only knew my husband 2 weeks before we got married & got to stay with him for 2 weeks after marriage. I went back to see him after 2 months for 2 weeks. So in 7 & 1/2 months that we have been married we have only spent 1 month together :(

I am so scared for our interview day because I really don't know how much of a depth they are going to go into this whole process. But we are preparing for anything and everything that they might ask. I got my finger crossed that we don't run into huge issue on the day of the interview.

Hi Nilu & Bhakti,

my case is also same. we didnt get enough time after marriage, had hardly one month.

Did they raise ay question regarding this.

Also after mariage we could not meet again. Also we did not go for any honeymoon. Did they raise any question regarding this

Kindly reply

Yes, please update your timelines - it helps in providing the right advise.

Don't worry about spending enough time - I went during spring break to get married and was back in 10 days due to school. Just collect additional evidences like - telephone log, emails, chats, details of sending flowers or ... (in case of a female overseas spouse). Also try to add the foreign spouse to your 401K/ Insurance as beneficiary and take evidence of those.

Look for anything little different in your case (a weak link) and work on questions around that - for example, I had registered marraige and my parents could go with me to India for marraige - so we worked on questions around this weak link and that is exactly what wife was questioned on. Also look at the reviews posted specially pertaing to your Embasy/ Consulate and you should be fine.
