I have tried UPS and they told me they were gonna charge me $75 so I just went with USPS Global Express. I didn't have that much time to check prices around town to see which postal service would be cheapest so I just went with USPS. You might wanna try DHL and FedEX to see whether they have cheaper service than USPS. I also think that if you do priority mail it will be cheaper than Express mail.

Fedex and ups is most expensive. USPS offers few different services but I'll suggest using the same one as Bhakti/nilu used. My understanding is that this service allows tracking.

I have used priority mail padded flat rate envelopes and have sent paperwork up to 2.5-3 lbs for a flat rate of $13.95 and it took 7 days to get to India.

Express mail is wayyy to expensive and we are not in a rush to get these documents to India right away as the interview is still quite a ways away.

Thanks for the info though. It helps a lot.

I dunno how up to date the tracking is when it gets to India. I usually just use priority mail.

Yes, SMS number is same for Mumbai consulate. Once your husband is approved for visa you can send a SMS to 57333 & in the body of the text type "US (Passport Number). Once your passport is ready to be picked up you will get a notification on your cell phone.

You enter the US passport number? The petitioner's passport number?

You would enter passport number of beneficiary (in your case it would be your wife's passport number).

Just type in visa (space) US (space) passport number and sms to 57333

If you have more than 3 lbs of paperwork then you can just send 2 different envelopes and it would still end up being cheaper than Express mail.

Ok. This might be a stupid question. But I can send this sms/text from the USA (T-Mobile Network)? Or is this service for India only (Vodafone/Uninor Network)?

So this is the what the sms should look like

I don't have a postage weight scale but I did the bathroom scale test and it was around 3.8 pounds so I think I should be ok as Priority mail pricing is 4lbs and below.

I also forgot to add that my wife did get her x-ray and sealed medical results the same day when she did her medical.

She also got her Passport Clearance Cert and stamp in her passport back yesterday. It took Ahmedabad RPO office 5 days to complete it. It was sent to her house via courier.

So far the process has been clean and straight forward. I hope the interview is the same as well.

I'm not too sure whether T-mobile service will work or not but my husband had sent SMS from his cell phone and he has vodafone. Yes, the message which you have typed is in the correct format.

Few ounces here and there is really not going to make much of a difference so I guess you should be ok with just one envelope.

Sorry Dev I am not really good at this multi quote thing on this forum at all. For some reason every time I try to answer multiple questions it ends up looking very ugly and big mess but I guess the format doesn't matter as long as you can find an answer to the questions.

As far as your evidence is consider I think you pretty much covered everything but I would also take pictures of wedding ceremony, honeymoon pictures, after marriage pictures, and family pictures. Because more likely they will ask you for pictures at the end of the interview.

Your most welcome. Have a safe trip to India & good luck for your upcoming interview. Don't worry about a thing everything will go alright :)

Ganesh86 & Kkhdadh, How did your 9/26 medical go on?

I am a U.S. Citizen planning on getting maried to an Indian early this march. We are looking to stay in India for a couple months and then return to the united states. She does not have any type of Visa to the U.S. as of yet. What paperwork should I get started with?

Coy, this is not the right thread for your question. Please open a new thread and one of us will provide the details under your thread.
