Thanks for the heads up. I will have to stay and collect the visa after interview on 10/25 (staying at Chennai on till 10/27or 1/28 - 10/26 is holiday), as I booked our tickets back to US by 10/30.

Unlike Mumbai, all the interviews at Chennai start at 1 PM and there are around 20 - 25 on average per days (1/3 of Mumbai). So I hope we get it at least on 10/27.

I don't think there should be any sort of issue picking up your wife's passport on the same day of the interview. Hope everything goes well without any sort of an issues. What you can do is actually send SMS to VFS while your wife is inside giving an interview so that way you don't have to worry about it later on.

Types of questions which they asked my husband was:

1. Who is your co-sponsor?

2. How did you guys meet?

3. What was your wedding date?

4. What does your co-sponsor do for a living?

5. Who called your wife to US?

6. How long has your wife been in US?

7. Where does your wife works?

8. How many kids does your co-sponsor have?

9. How is your co-sponsor related to your wife?

10. When did your wife go back to States after marriage?

11. Did you go on a honeymoon? If so, where did you go? Which hotel did you guys stay?

12. What did your wife study?

13. What did you study?

They asked him to show some pictures of the ceremony mainly the pheras and few other ones. After that the consulate told other consulate that the relationship is genuine. Consulate told him that his visa is approved :)

That was pretty much what they had asked my husband during his interview. My husband said that his interview lasted for 5 minutes.

I hope that our experience will be helpful to others who are preparing for their upcoming interview :)

Folks,

I wanted to update you about my wife's 1st day medical test which happened today. She reached by 9AM exactly. At reception desk she was asked to pay RS1000. On her 1st day, doctor Raj Kumar Songa is not available. It was his assistant who took my wife's height, weight, heart rate, blood pressure and blood test followed by chest X-ray. They said they will call my wife this evening and let her know about her next appointment.

Her next appointment will be with Dr. Raj Kumar Songa and on that day she will be given vaccination and a sealed envelope. IF there is a serious health problem or abnormatliy then they will discuss with my wife. Otherwise they will give her sealed envelope. On this particular day she has to pay additional Rs5000-Rs6000 which includes vaccinations. In conclusion she ended up paying no more than RS7000.

She specifically asked when will be the next appointmement and they said they cannot really say when it will be. I am hoping it should be next week and either ways she will hear from them by this evening. They will only acccept CASH and do not accept credit/debit cards. So please carry cash only.

Is the SMS number same(57333) if you are interviewing at Mumbai consulate? So basically, we SMS them during the interview day to get your visa status and update on passport, am I correct? Just trying to get this straight. I am also flying next week(to Guj) for my hubby's interview and spend some quality family time with my in laws, for evidences his agent in India said we need phone bills, pics, hotel receipts, travel receipts. I am trying to get copies of chats and there is so much to sort out on that part lol. Do we need anything else on the evidence part? Thanks for all the help.

NavyK I had suggested my husband to send SMS to 57333 after he was done with his interview so that way once the passport is transferred to VFS office he would know whether it's ready to be picked up or not. Since he didn't have access to the internet to check status on the website about his passport we went with the SMS options. SMS would be the better option.

Yes, SMS number is same for Mumbai consulate. Once your husband is approved for visa you can send a SMS to 57333 & in the body of the text type "US (Passport Number). Once your passport is ready to be picked up you will get a notification on your cell phone. As far as your evidence is consider I think you pretty much covered everything but I would also take pictures of wedding ceremony, honeymoon pictures, after marriage pictures, and family pictures. Because more likely they will ask you for pictures at the end of the interview.

Your most welcome. Have a safe trip to India & good luck for your upcoming interview. Don't worry about a thing everything will go alright :)

I have tried UPS and they told me they were gonna charge me $75 so I just went with USPS Global Express. I didn't have that much time to check prices around town to see which postal service would be cheapest so I just went with USPS. You might wanna try DHL and FedEX to see whether they have cheaper service than USPS. I also think that if you do priority mail it will be cheaper than Express mail.
