It absolutely makes them insignificant to an American student if he/she is not the intended applicant.

That is like saying a white student is being treated unfairly because the NAACP gave their scholarship to a black student. Or it's like saying a black student is being treated unfairly because some large hispanic organization gave their scholarship to a hispanic.

I think what is really occurring here is you are simply jealous. Are you the Morrocan or the USC? Yes, muslims have an extremely difficult time integrating into US society, and it will take years of goodwill and proof on the part of muslims for many to give them a fair shake. But don't go knock hispanic organizations. Hispanics have proven over almost over a half century what values and hard work they bring to the table. One day perhaps muslims will as well, but for now when I think muslim I think airplanes. It will take a lot of work on the part of "good" muslims for many many folks, myself included, to overcome that judgement. By the way, if a muslim organization wants to offer up a scholarship, I don't think you hear Christians whining about it, do you?

this was my thought precisely. jealousy. i was told by this poster to send my husband back since he just 'came from next door' and try obtaining a visa from a country outside of north america so i could 'appreciate' the turmoil and hardship of the immigration process. totally baseless assertion. definitely has some serious issues going on.

also, i'm sure there would be TONS of christians upset about ANYTHING muslim. muslims could be giving away money to people on the street and i assure you that there will be plenty of christians claiming it is a back handed attempt to cripple america and further terrorism. come on, let's not be naive.

As stated before get on Craigslist under skilled trade or automotive.

All your painters, backyard mechanics, people that lay carpet, handymen, roofers, plumbers, electricians, etc., are legal and not Mexican, but they are doing things completely off the books...Their work does not legally exist. They are paid in cash 99% of the time.

"Illegal" Mexicans come to the country with forged documentation (green card, EAD, passport, SS#, etc.)...They are not "paid under the table"....It is not hard to figure out....The restaurant manager being paid $30,000 a year is not out looking for people to pay cash each week ($4 or $5 an hour, lol). Simply not true.

My wife first worked at a Red Robin. Entire kitchen 95% illegal and Mexican. From the kitchen manager down to the dish washer. On top of these 40 hour weeks most if not all have second jobs where they work another 30 to 40 hours a week.

They are paid just like everyone else, in the system, by check, and taxes come out.

My wife then went to another restaurant and 99% of the kitchen staff (including manager) was illegal....She was there for 2 years. She quit about 5 months ago and we found out a couple months later that this restaurant was audited and all employees that didn't have authentic documentation were let go.

Most of the evil places that hire illegals are listed on the major stock exchanges. Red Robin, McDonald's, Burger King, and pretty much any other restaurant you can think of.

They don't go there and whisper in the managers ear: "I'm illegal, you want to pay me $5 under the table" rofl.gif

That is not how it works. They are paid at the same rate as everyone else (starting at the restaurant my wife worked at was $10 an hour, the kitchen manager probably was making $16 or $17 - he was there for years and was promoted from an Ohio location to a Michigan location to head the kitchen). And in many cases they not only work harder and better, they want to be there, and on top of the 40 hours they work another 30 hours somewhere else (this was true with 80% of my wife's illegal coworkers)..

Maybe housekeeping, skilled trade, landscaping is done under the table (the illegal then decides his own prices). But no different than the legal that gets paid cash.

The only industry I can think of where they might be paid under the table is picking vegetables/fruits 14 hours a day....

You still don't get it, do you? There's a reason why they're hired. What do you think that may be?

Secondly, I never brought up the word 'Mexican' as I am an equal opportunity anti-illegal no matter if you were from the UK, Sweden, Mexico, et al.

Finally, I never brought up the notion that Americans don't work under the table. What a ludicrous assertion.

Anecdotal stories aside, illegals are working, and there's a benefit to why employers are breaking the law to hire them. Tell me, what do you think it is?

I'd like to know how encouraging illegality benefits anyone, beyond soothing their liberal minds. And, how do they think illegals get jobs in the first place, without becoming fraudsters.

You feel that way coz your husband came from next door. Send them back and make them all process through like our spouses who were not next door had to do.

We need to make it a felony to be here illegally, then act like it's a felony.

the absolute racism by the topic starter is astonishing throughout this thread.....

Can you point out the racism? The closest thing I saw was regarding latino housekeepers, which from my experience is fact. We looked for a housekeeper in the past. Only latinos answered.

My comprehension is on point. Feel free to break it down for me.

obviously it's not...

Enlarged so you can see the key points.

Sofiyya was making the point that your husband came from next door. Since your husband did things the LEGAL Way, then send everyone else back to do it the legal was as well...

thanks for your insight. wrong. but thanks. the bold really helped me see that you are thrifty in extracting your argument outside of context.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
