hello

I was offered a position as a med tech- where the entry requirment is a Bachelor degree in america. What are my options now to the green card petition? Would I have to ask my employer if they are willing to do it later for me and if they are not to look for other employer? The job is in demand as is anything in med field. Please advise if it is hard for the employer to get me a green card. they are a large prestigious not for profit hospital

would maybe getting an advanced degree give me more chances to a green card through employment? like a phd because i would fall in eb2?

Thanks

As far as I know if the company is well known and issues it for you it is not very hard... They would have to be your sponsor and issue and F-1 visa. Once you have your visa you can apply to get a green crad.

I had to go thru that process when I firt moved here 10 years ago with my family. My dad was a GM sponsored employee and it took fairly short... we got a lawyer to process the green cards because my sister was about to turn 21 and be out of his f-1... of course this was before 911 so my guess is it got more strict...

They would normally apply for an H1 Visa on your behalf so you could work whilst the GC process was going through.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

when would be good to ask for the green card sponsorship? once I am on H1 for a few years? what is the fate of all the people on h1b visas in us? do their employee mostly apply for the green card visa or it is usually that they leave US at the end of 6 years on H1? I am honestly scared because staying here for 6 years is quite long and you make a living, a situation in this country. it would be so brutal to leave the country after 6 years when you have som many things linked to this country.

also why a post says that they would put you on a F1 visa? that is a student visa..what does that has to do with the green card petition?

I would say it is probably sigle digit percentage of H-1B holders that gets sponsored for green cards. They either go back home or try to extend their status in other ways. If you are scared, than do not come, you'll have no guarantee someone will sponsor you and after 6 years lots of things may change - economy may be way different, your employer may change its mind, world will end or something else will happen...

I am not sure other poster is talking about F1, F1 is a student visa your employeer will file for H1 and then go from there with GC. Please be aware of it now days less and less employeer are filing for GC as its a huge cost for them and they can find local ppl with the similar skillset.

Also once your employeer has filed for GC does not mean anything - does not mean your GC would be processed by USCIS in 6 years it can take longer too.

If you are so worried about GC, I would advice you look for other opportunity and skip this opportunity - you said this is Non-Profit org, most non-profit would not even file for H1 forget GC.

well, i don't really know why you say that not for profit do not sponsor. my employer does many h1's per year because of the big demand of the job and they can't find good us candidates...so h1 is not the issue. is the issue of wheter they will do the GC later. I checked the myvisajobs website and it shows they did GC in the past for 3 other people. that might seem very little, but it is not. fisrt, how many do they have with h1 first place? probably is a single digit for this particlar position title. and then like somebody else said, they do go home, trasfer to other compnaies or may get married in the meantime. so GC though employment is not the only way for a GC.... I was a F1 student in this country

Are you quite sure, they have offered you the job ? There are many skilled US candiadates for a med-tech. The US army trains for med-tech, med-tech's are usually employed by the fire-dept for our ambulance services.

So, I am a little confuse by why you feel, thus company would sponsor a HB1 and GC for a med-tech.

you are comparing things with 3 yrs back, lot has changed in US economy in last 3 years.

If they sponsored someones card 3 yrs back does not mean they still do it, these are companies internal policy and they can change anytime.

So maybe they are sponsoring today and you join them today later 6 months down the road this policy can always change and they can come up and say we are not sponsoring the GC anymore, what you gonna do then?
