Indonesia - Should I get the Marriage Book and Muslim Certificate translated to English?

1) The marriage book has the marriage certificate section in both Indonesian and English language. But in other pages of the book it is written in Indonesian such as the prayer and husband's promise to the wife. Do you think those specific Indonesian pages still need to be translated to English?

2) Should the Muslim Certificate also be translated to English? I was thinking that I will just write my Muslim name in the "Other names used" box.

3) Should I include the Muslim Certificate in the I-130 package?

We had the whole marriage book translated. We copied the book and copied the translation with the stamp and sent copies in with the I130/I129F/I485/2nd I130. This has always been adequate. The contract will probably be entertaiing to the reviewing officer anyway LOL

The Shahadah certificate is for the marriage to take place and is for the Ministry of Religions Affairs in Indonesia. It is an Indonesian requirement not US government requirement. Mine was never included in anything we filed.

NOTE: We used that translation service around the corner from the Embassy (about 2 blocks away)

Don't forget to translate the Indo birth certificate. We needed it a couple times.

What else: OH - name change. Immigration put the name change in my wife's passport right after we got married and before the I130 was approved. I filed the I-130 with my last name as hers and in the meantime Indo immigration put the name change in the "notes" section and stamped it. This meant the visa, green card, EAD card, and drivers license was all issued in her full name with my family name as last name. When her passport was renewed this year it was renewed in her (new) name so everything is a match.

OH and Never, ever send original translations when you file anything. Send copies LOL. I lost (1) marriage book translation that way Luckily we made (2) translations of everything.

My wife took care of it. This is my recollection:

The translator's office was right around the corner from the embassy. I dont know if translations have to be stamped or not (but)) our view was that it's a permanent record, may need it someday (we did LOL) and why not get a licenced, authorized translator to do it. There are two choices according to our local consulate - either get an authorized translator to do it or bring the person who did it in person to swear in and declare that they are qualified. We nixed #2. Too much trouble.

All of our translations of everything have a stamp with the translator's gvt number on it with original signature. Dude stamped and signed every page actually. His name was Anang Fahkcrudin and under his name is SK.GUB KOKI NO 2228/2001 - which is his registration number or some such.

We had a bunch of documents translated here in Saudi for our second visajourney notably police cert and iqama (resident card). Same thing, they all have the translators official stamp, name, and registration number.

As I recall the translation cost in Jakartya was about $10-15 a page. Worth it, as it turned out.

I don't know if you still need it or not. But the US embassy in Jakarta has a list of sworn translators

WEll this is old topic but for futher info, YOu do not need to translate the marriage book, it is in Indonesian/English so it has a de facto english translation. that would be like translating your US passport because it has English French and Spanish in it.
