There are many ways to resolve the situation, but none will work if they are the result of only one side's actions. Israel might be able to set up a Palestinian state, as you say, but unless the many Palestinian political and militant organisations buy in, there still won't be a lasting peace. Unless groups like Hamas and the PRC agree on a path of non-violence, you will still have cross-border attacks and retaliation, and the body count will continue to rise.

But a good start would be for Israel to forego retaliation the next time there is a terrorist attack and let the world media bring pressure to bear to stop the attacks from happening in the first place.

I blame the whole thing on McVitie's. :rofl: If Israel makes an honest effort to push forth peace, a viable state with contiguous borders and roughed in infrastructure, the Palestinians will sign on. No retaliation. No extra-judicial killings, no martyrs, only criminal trials. Border attacks will peter out and it will be easier to stop the attacks since the suspects can be narrowed down. If there is hope then there is no need for suicide bombings or anything of that sort. The economic ties between Israel and a Palestinian state are there, they just need to be utilized.

The state of Israel made the terrorists become part of the mainstream of their politics. The Palestinians have started down that road. There will not be a lasting peace until they reach the end of it.

What self-respecting Palestinian would buy into an Israeli "gifted" state? I don't know any who would, besides, Israel has no authority to do that. They have their hands full trying to keep their own nation legitimate.

What will be the impetus of change is truth in media. As long as people who don't side with Israel are still lead to speak through its perspective, nothing will get better and the divide will continue to widen.
