hi everyone! so here is a bit of background of my case. My husband and I got married when living in Texas, we started the process of adjusting of status in Texas. I had to stay there to finish college, i had an F1 visa at the time (I am Mexican national, my husband is American citizen). He moved to Michigan to look for a job and upon graduation i moved up here with him. Our lawyer told us to wait for me to obtain my work permit so she could change our address. The day I got my permit (at my parents house in TX), I called her. 2 weeks after, my parents called me, they got my interview/appointment notice in Texas! well, we dont have any problem traveling down there but the lawyer said she never changed the address and now is going to try and move it up here. She mentioned theres the chance of going to TX and being turned back at the interview because we live up north and the office that processes our case is different. Now my concern is that, I dont want them to deny my application and i dont want us to fly down and being turned back. I also dont want it to be too late to change it... any advice?? thank you!!

You should call USCIS with your situation.

Also, you should have filed the address change as soon as you moved; you don't need to have your EAD or anything else to do it. I'm not sure why your lawyer suggested that you wait.

I do not know why she wanted us to wait, she also said she didnt think id get it so quick. Im thinking about trying to change it myself, dont want her to wait 2 more weeks to try and move it up here... should i?

Changing your address is very easy--certainly not something a lawyer has to do. You can mail the form AR-11, or you can even do it online. It says you need to do it within 10 days of the change.

I'm not sure what effect this will have on your case though; you may want to call and ask. Or, you also might want to ask a (different) lawyer as it may have undesired effects, such as increased suspicion.

okay, I will make an appointment to go to immigration services and request the change, i will see if they can help me somehow, thank you!

why not just call if you want to talk with someone? you can change your address online and not have to worry about another appointment.

I would make an InfoPass appointment and change your address there to make sure it is processed speedily and also to explain the situation with the interview, and let them know you are willing to travel to Texas if need be. That's just me, but I would feel more comfortable having talked to an actual immigration officer than talking to someone working at a call center and assuming all the information is going to get passed through, because if there is any confusion you don't want to find that you thought they were going to reschedule your interview to Michigan and they think you just skipped what was scheduled or something of that sort.
