Ooh Ooh! (raises hand) I want to chat with fellow Canadians!!!

Heading back to the motherland Wednesday night for a week trip to visit my family, get my hair done (yes, she's like 60% cheaper than anyone here in DC), and help take my little brother away to school. I love going back home, but I'm always in a funk when I get back!

I hear ya!! I was fortunate to go back to Stoon for a month! Was depressing driving back to DC,lol And Now Tim Hortons is coming out with larger sized coffee cups!! I'm pretty certain they are just trying to coax me back, lol

I'll go back for a larger cup :) We noticed that in Maine. A medium in Canada was a small in the US. Go big or go home!

You guys are right, I should stop worrying. I might just tap into some other resources and send it out earlier. Otherwise, I guess it's not a big deal. It's not like I have it all prepared and ready to go anyways... I just have a desk of unsorted papers right now. I'm also stressed that I don't have enough evidence, even though my husband keeps telling me we have plenty. I think I need to stop stressing over everything! This immigration stuff still brings out the worst in me.

Welland was the same as always! This was my first trip since Christmas, but I had some more time to spend than last time, so I got to hit all the hot spots  I really wish I could make more than 1-2 trips per year, but it's hard with work and other life commitments. Every 6 weeks is great OBX! You'll have to keep me updated if anything groundbreaking happens (not holding my breath...)

Huggle, i think it brings out the worst in most of us. I know i always become a complete nutter, and get stressed to the max. I'm sure you have enough stuff to prove your relationship. Itd be nice if they could just let the fact that yoru both together still be the only thing you need to show but you have a home financial stuff mixed family. not sure what else they want to see..other than an organ donation..i mean sheesh..:)

Me too! We were planning on heading up Thursday but my old neighbours flew back today from England and their connecting flight out of Newark ...surprise....surprise was cancelled. So we picked them up at the airport and I'll head up tomorrow to drive them home. Yay, I'll be there early enough in the week to hopefully get a last minute hair appointment. I actually pay less here for a cut and colour but they do charge extra to dry it out so in the end it's about the same. Unfortunately I can't find anyone to cut my air the way I want so I'll happily drive 7 1/2 hours to someone that can :)

Thanks Kimbear! It's true, I always become a complete nut. It's the true test of love, because my husband sill actually wants to me around me

The one thing I'm worried about is the house thing. We bought our house in my husbands name only. At the time I had no credit at all, and our loan officer wouldn't approve our loan if I was on it. I didn't care at the time, and I still really don't... but that's one piece of evidence we don't have. We have everything else but that. Tax returns, bills, insurance policies, a car loan, joint accounts, etc. I know a lot of people have been approved without a joint mortgage, but it seems like a big missing piece. I didn't worry about this until some other people stressed me out about it! I wrote a letter explaining the situation, so hopefully that will help.

If you really are that worried about it, could you get an affidavit from the loan officer who processed your loan stating as much. I don't know how valuable it would be in any sort of evaluation, but if it would give you peace of mind through the process, I think it would be invaluable.

I have about a year to go before I have to worry about ROC, but since we have a child (and hopefully another one at least on the way at that time) that tends to help. I think that is a big reason why they were so quick to waive my AOS interview...being 8 months pregnant is pretty good evidence that we are 'together'!! I am not sure if we will have a house by that point either, so I am sure you will be fine with what you have.

I woudln't worry about it at all - our situation is the same and we were not questioned about it. Stop worrying - you only have something to worry about if your marriage isn't real.

We didn;t have an interview either.

We had this same situation -- it turns out it was only in my name! (shocking, I had great credit) because my husband's business didn't have 3 years of tax returns yet. But, he was on the deed, so that's what I copied and sent in.

I wouldn't worry about it! We still rent, but we don't even have a joint lease. My name isn't even on our car ownership. We just just wrote a letter explaining why my name isn't on the lease and included alot of other evidence showing that we are financially intertwined. While we haven't been approved yet, I'm not all that worried. If your name is on the deed, you can use that too. Joint taxes and joint bank accounts are great. So is a joint life insurance policy if you have one.

I have about a year to go before I have to worry about ROC, but since we have a child (and hopefully another one at least on the way at that time) that tends to help. Actually, I did some reading and I was surprised to read that having a child together is not really considered strong evidence. Sure, it helps, but because any two people can have children together, it's not as strong of evidence as financial like the sharing of property and other more risky financial joint ventures. I guess the thinking is that being bound together financially and owning large scale items and being linked to joint finances is a lot more risky in a fraud situation then just having a child. Obviously it still helps though!

Can you not be on title too? i know in illinois my bank told me that even though i'm not on the mortgage i can be on the title.. this way if David ever leaves me i get half the house still..lol. She actually said that to his face.

I know I wasn't on the loan, but am on the title!!

On a side note---I guess with the downward spiral of housing costs, couples that are divorcing are trying to get out of the house--wanting the other to keep it as they owe sooo much on it (upside down)

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I'm not on the title or the mortgage. At the time, I didn't know you could do that, It was never explained to us as an option. I just recently realized this could be done. With the time it would take and fees, It doesn't seem worth it right now. We are likely going to refinance in a few years, and when we do that, I will be added to the loan and the title. Thankfully my credit is really good now, 2 years later. If we get an RFE, then maybe we'll look into doing an emergency quit claim deed.

It something happened between us, he could have the house! I wouldn't want it.

We have 4 life insurance policies between the two of us. He's the beneficiary on both of mine, and I'm the beneficiary on both of his. I'm an insurance agent, so we have plenty of insurance, all in both names. I'm also a named insured on the home insurance policy, so maybe that counts for something. I also have a copy of our pre-purchase home inspection which is in both names.

Did you guys include things like copies of anniversary or Christmas cards addressed to you both? Is that pointless? Bill's family is very "card oriented," so we have tons from the last 2 years.

Worrying is only natural, but ur in the same spot as millions others----arrive into country with no credit, thus ur not on the mortgage and like you many don't realize you can be put on the deed/title. I didn't AOS, but quality over quantity! Insurance papers are good, stuff on banking. Thats good hard concrete stuff. In my opinion, anyone can draw up a card or letter, lol Few pics and ur good to go!! But thats just my 2 cents
