Hi everyone,

My I-94 which was issued in Mar 2011, has the arrival date stamped, but the expiry date and the visa class (H1) are hand written. Is it a problem?

Does it depend on the port of entry whether it is stamped or hand written? I heard that in the recent forms the visa type and the expiry date

are supposed to be all stamped? Has it happened with anyone else?

I used the form given to me in the flight and filled in my name etc. Thanks!

Of course - on my L-1 visa I-94 date and admission class is hand written as well. Believe this is normal.

Hi Harpa, and kzielinski

Thanks for your reply. This is my first time on H1B visa. Are we supposed to show I-94 for flying within the US? (it is attached to the passport).

I read a link saying that it is only in the old forms that it is hand written? so I am worried.

Hope it is ok to post links from other websites here.

Can someone tell me whether for H1, in 2011 it can be written like they have done. Is this a mistake?

I've never seen an entry stamp that doesn't have these two details handwritten. It's normal.

Unless ICE is executing some activity at a certain airport at a given time, it is not normal procedure to check your I-94 when travelling within the US. ICE and CBP are known to make random appearances at bus/train stations, however.

Why are you feeling so guilty and scared if you have done nothing wrong?

I read your link and it is from 2004. I have never seen a "computer generated I-94" and people are still given them to hand write on on the airplane. I call BS.

Exactly! Don't feel scared. Everything is OK.

The only I-94's that are computer generated come in the form of I-797As. These are only given when you change your status to H-1B when you're already in the US from some other status. In this case, USCIS will give you a new, computer generated I-94 attached to a I-797A.

If you received your H-1B overseas and entered on H-1B status, the I-94 is handwritten.

I-94 is always hand written there is nothing unusal in it. Infact I have never heard of computer genrated I-94 unless you did a status change and you got a new I-94.

You hold on to your I-94 until you leave the country, you only return it back when you leave the country.
