The best part is that we live in a country where we can feel this way. We all have different opinions yet at the end of the day we relax and have a beer together. In other countries if you dare complain about the government you may wake up dead the next morning.

I'm on record as saying that I think I ought to pay more taxes. So should all of us. We have a deficit problem, or hadn't you noticed.

Perhaps not immediately at the moment with a very fragile economy, but just as soon as GDP growth gets over, say, 2% I think we ought to have a broad based rollback of the Bush tax cuts. I'm glad that they will expire at the end of 2012, unless the Tea Party interferes again.

I have no issue with people feeling otherwise, stating as such, voting as such, running for office as such. Even organizing protests and marches. All fine. I do lose respect for those who do nothing but attack and complain without offering any real solutions to our country's problems, and who actively sabotage efforts made by those who are trying to solve those problems.

That presupposes that there is some authoritative guide to the Tea Party movement. There isn't, people have ideas but not everyone shares these. It's not up to the gekko to tell us what we know or don't know. Scandal, your perception is no less valid than anyone else's. No one can proscribe your empirical knowledge however it may be acquired.

It's not "Or spend less". It's "And spend less". We need to do both.

As to donations, they're fine. And you'll appreciate that the particulars of my financial decisions are not your beeswax, yes?

Besides, we have a national problem in which all of our society participates. If I have a criticism of Obama or Buffett's calls for taxes on the wealthy, it's only because we need to broaden the base and include everyone. You or me or even Buffett donating his $40B on an individual basis to the Treasury isn't going to solve the problem. Reforming our tax code, broadening it to include everyone, simplifying it, closing the loopholes, and raising revenue , is the correct approach, in my view. Along with reducing expenditures even on the sacred cows - military and entitlement spending.
