I've read on a number of posts that I should be at the Embassy an hour before my interview appointment.

My dilema is that I've been looking for trains and the earliest one I can get will get me to Kings Cross 45 minutes before my interview at 9am. Otherwise it will mean I have to take an overnight bus/coach that will arrive at Victoria Coach Station at 7.30am.

My question is, how important is it that I be outside the Embassy an hour before my Interview Appointment.

You would be doing well to get to the Consulate for 9.

Nobody is going to check your time and say "sorry, you're late." They open the doors around 7:30. They start calling numbers around 8:00. It's first in line, first served. If your objective is getting the visa, and not how far up the cue inside you are (#14 instead of #1), then just get there even if it's 9:15. It won't matter to the embassy.

You can probably get from Kings Cross station to the embassy in 45 minutes.

Rather, this is definitely do-able but it will depend on how quick you are and if there a long queue when you get there. What time is your appointment?

There will be quite a few people with an appointment time of 9am. The earlier you get there the earlier you will be in queue and the earlier you will be seen. If you're later it's fine, just bring a book to read whilst you wait :-)
