Visa number is the number in red, on your physical visa which is attached to your passport. The number on your I-94 number is different.

Where are you putting the date on your I-20? I don't remember the forms asking for that.. but maybe they do. In that case, use the latest one, since if you have two the most recent one would be the one that is current. The old ones are no longer valid when a new i-20 is issued - though you should always keep ALL your I-20s for your records. But the latest one is the one you would use.

Canadians have a different situation from what I understand, they get a I-120 but not an actual visa... they just apply for "student status" with their I-120 at the border.

Aaaa.. Did not know that! Yes, apparently Canadians do not actually need the F1 visa to come to study to the US, but they are nonetheless admitted under F1 status. Did your passport get stamped when you crossed the border? Does the stamp state anything about F1 status and/or have a number?

You could try asking this question in the Canada regional forum, I'm sure someone here knows what to answer to that question when you're a Canadian under F1 status!

I am not sure either... it might be just "none." Best to ask the Canada Regional forum on that one.

And I meant I-20, but I guess I am so used to typing I-130, I-131 etc I just did it automatically... man.... muscle memory...

People tend to often go a bit overboard with this process, which is understandable - it's stressfull, complicated, frustrating, hugely important, scary, confusing, and a million other things all at once - but in the midst of all those emotions, try to remember that in the end, it is just about filling out paperwork, paying attention to detail, and most importantly - following common sense throughout the process. :)

You'll read many things and ideas and suggestions about how to go about this process, what to include with the paperwork and what not to include, what to write and what not to write, and some of it will be great advice and the rest very often complete cr**. Ultimately, what is not asked for in the official instructions of each of those forms that you are filling out is not required. If those forms don't ask you to write something on the corner of each sheet of paper you send - then it is not required. If you choose to write something anyway - assuming it's not a four letter word directed to the IO who is processing your case - you will not be denied because of that. If you want to send 150 pictures along with your application, you can - and you will not be denied because of that - but you do not have to. Just think of what the IO who is assigned to your case would want to see in an application: forms that are filled out clearly and correctly, according to instructions, with the supportive documentation that is asked for in the instructions, in a logical order, and preferable with a cover letter that clearly states what is there so that he/she can immediately see if a certain document was included or not.

It's a drainign process - and it's easy to lose faith in your own ability to read, understand and follow instructions because there are SO many different opinions floating around and people always claim that they have the right answer while others are wrong - but just trust yourself. If you vaguely remember reading somewhere that you absolutely should do XYZ in regards to this application, pull out the official instructions - if those do not state that you should do XYZ, then it is not required! Relax, take a deep breath, have a cup of coffee. I'm sure you'll be just fine :)
