Nut Allergies and Children: How Others React Is Causing a Call for Increased Regulation.

Ooh so if only one or two children will die from a food allergy, so it's no big deal.

Wow.

All through school growing up there were one or two kids with nut allergies. It didn't hurt them to 'be around' other kids that had nuts in their sandwiches, snacks, etc.

Why did it not hurt them? Because their mommies and daddies were responsible and taught their children appropriately what they could and could not eat. They packed them a lunch and they brought it to school and they ate it. They didn't have to worry because they knew mommy and daddy were doing their job.

Today, government must do the job for us! Society is unfit to take care of itself! We must bow down to our overlords and praise our saviours!! We were not surviving without them.

This isn't a 'public health' issue at all. It's an issue of the dumbing down of society so that it cannot take care of itself on one more avenue.

How do you know it didn't hurt them Paul? Do you have some telepathic window into people's lives?

One of them is still a friend actually. Thinks that people overreact to the situation through the typical activism channels. He doesn't need a ballpark to have 'no peanut' days for him to go to a game. He just doesn't eat them or touch them. Never had an issue growing up because his Parents were actual parents and raised him. He's got kids who love nuts. Doesn't deprive them of nuts just because he's got an allergy.

It's not a hard concept.

Well perhaps you don't know this Paul, but I know that some people can have allergic reactions from being in the proximity of people who are eating nuts or foods containing them. It depends on how severe their allergy is. Perhaps your friend's isn't as severe as others.

Regardless, it seems a very strange thing to be up in arms about.

Yeah, we should end the special regulations around school busses, lowered speeds in school zones and crossing guards. Pizzes me off on my way to work every fcuking morning. All that garbage is just there because some parents can't teach their kids how to behave properly in traffic. Rather than inconvenience me and my neighbors on our morning commute, those few kids should just be weeded out on the streets. Right?

it's pretty sever in the sense that he can't come into contact with peanut oils.

The 'up in arms' part of the situation isn't necessarily from the nut situation, it's the personal responsibility aspect of it. I should have to babysit anyone, just as they shouldn't have to babysit me.

You aren't babysitting anyone. It's just about having a sense of self awareness. Allergies are real and serious, don't pretend that they aren't

I'm not pretending anything, but it's not MY responsibility to worry about YOUR allergy.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

So, no more stopping for the school bus? No more crossing guards? No more reduced speeds around schools?

crossing guards generally are volunteers.

Figuring most schools are in residential areas anywhere where the speed limit is 25-30mph, the 5-10mph difference really isn't that big of a deal other than making it easier to give traffic citations.

Wow lots of anger today from Paul.

Paul: you should understand that many foodstuffs are handled in plants that commonly come into contact with nut products. School districts should perhaps regulate the food processors they deal with?

I would predict that, if you were to have kids, and one were to come out with a food allergy, you'd be the first hysterical parent whining that your school district regulate these things.

No, unlike the other morons today, I was actually taught responsibility in looking out for oneself and ones own family. Not this "waaaaahhhh my neighbor won't pay for my health care" bullshit.

why are you laughing? i answered your second point.

Your first point is silly because any and all materials used by a school cafeteria should be cleaned and sterilized before use anyway.
