Bedford Village, NEW HAMPSHIRE -- In one of his first visits to the first-in-the-nation primary state as a presidential candidate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday morning stuck to his controversial comments that it would be “treasonous” for the Federal Reserve to “print more money” in order to boost the economy.

He also called for the Fed to “open its books” and be completely transparent in its activities.

“I got in trouble about talking about the Federal Reserve yesterday. I got lectured about that yesterday,” Perry told the audience at the state’s Politics and Eggs breakfast.

“There have been a number of politicians who have stood up and really questioned the transparency of the Federal Reserve,” added the governor. “They should open their books up. They should be transparent so that the people of the United States know what they are doing and how they are doing” it.

“Until they do that there will continue to be questions about their activity and what their true goal is for the United States.”

At the breakfast, Perry also responded to White House spokesman Jay Carney’s statement on Tuesday that presidential candidates need to “watch what they say” in response to Fed statement.

“Yesterday, the president said I needed to watch what I say,” Perry told attendees. “I just want to respond back to say, ‘Mr. President, actions speak louder than words. My actions helped create jobs in Texas. The president’s actions are killing jobs in America.’”

Rick Perry literally is Michelle Bachmann, with a schlong. He is a polished politician and plays to the crowd he is adressing. Too bad he can't pretend to be a policy wonk, or someone grounded in reality.
