You really don't get it. Sad.

Oh no, I get it, but you're trying to say that someone who has already paid their debt to society, now has to lose their constitutional rights as well?

This is actually a great argument for authoratarianism. Just lock everyone up for a few days here and there and BAM no more constitutional rights since they were in jail!

So the state of Ohio allows people who have previously been convicted of a criminal weapon charge to get a concealed weapon permit? Wow, and I thought Tejas had some fvcked up gun laws.

A non-violent misdemeanor shouldn't prevent someone from carrying a concealed weapon, should it?

Or, are you going to argue since a gun was involved I shouldn't be able to play with those toys anymore? (Be careful, you're about to stop a lot of folks from operating motor vehicles!)

I am always worried about ex-convicted criminals staying within the parameters of their release agreement, also known as parole.

I was careful to stay within the parameters of my probation. No guns while on probation.

the last time i checked constitutional rights could not be suspended. Otherwise they would not be rights.

If you are incarcerated it's one thing, but then there's no reason why you should not be afforded your rights once you have paid your debt to society.

I was kind of surprised by this too, but constitutional rights are absolutely revoked once you're caught up in the legal system. I was not allowed to have a firearm in my house for over a year. Where they get that authority I have no idea. Why we're not "up in arms" over it is also a mystery to me but taking a look at posters like the master baiter up there, it's no wonder we don't trust people to have all of their rights.

I wonder what would happen if criminals weren't allowed to go to church or read anymore?

Wrong Paul. Your 2nd amendment rights can and will be suspended if you are incarcerated. In some states, that suspension extends beyond incarceration until the deviant can show to be a normal member of society. The safety of the public at large outweighs your bloodlust for guns.

He is correct about how it works. However, the reasoning is wrong. It's not about the safety of the public it's about the misconception that all criminals pose a risk to society.

Right. So now we're picking and choosing what 'rights' are available to people.

That is happening every single day.

I'd love to find an attorney who would help me challenge this horrific practice but the search is not going so well. They just kind of shrug their shoulders and say, "you're wasting your time."

Felons aside, there are people out there right now who are on probation for stupid things like driving on a suspended license and they're barred from owning a weapon. They can't even possess a shotgun to defend their home with. It makes no sense to me that non-violent offenders would be barred from possessing weapons but that's standard practice.

It's been explained to me two ways. 1 - It's not safe for government officials to conduct random searches (which they're also permitted to do) of your home, auto, place of business, etc., if you have firearms or other weapons present. 2. Your probation or parole time is in lieu of further jail time and any rights you would forfeit by being in jail are also subject to being forefeited on the outs.

Personally, I have to call bullsh!t on both, but I can see how that'd be an easy sell to most people. Someone like my mother, who found the prohibition more than justified couldn't fathom why I'd need a gun the rest of the year I was on probation and not locked up in jail. Someone like the master baiter above thinks all criminals are dangerous and present a threat to the public if they're armed. Since government employees do not feel safe around armed individuals... I wonder where people like my mom and the master baiter got those ideas?

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

He has run out of arguments again and has to use personal attacks. Your tax dollars at work. (sort of at work)

Thats great for you, your family, and your community. What is sad is that you don't grasp why. Or, you are simply deluding yourself into thinking that your cache of guns is what keeps Vermont crime free.

One thing IS for sure. My cache of guns (and everyone else's) does not make it unsafe.

I did this, though I was suspended twice. (although I always had the lesser time)

Parents let me have fun on those days off.

was the bully a slow learner? Or was it another bully that didn't get the word?

I can walk around this city safely at 1am too.

Fear of guns has nothing to do with it.

Thanks for making my argument. Texas has concealed carry. What about your children? Do you let them walk alone at 1am?

When I walk around at 1:00 AM I carry my gun.

Me too. Or 8 am or 9pm or 4pm or 11:17am. In fact, if I am walking and it isn't walking out of the shower, I carry a gun. That is what keeps my kids safe at 1 am. The fact that SOME people are always armed makes it very risky to try to make SOMEone a victim. Much easier to take the ferry over to New York or a short drive up to Quebec for unarmed victims

what business is it of the 'appropriate officials' if he's carrying around a gun or not?

They may have to interrupt their internet posting activities.

The good news is that Vermont has no fvcked up gun laws, or un-fvcked up gun laws.

Actually Texas allows for the revocation of a concealed carry license much easier than most other states, at least they did unless that has been modified. In Texas a gun MUST be carried concealed and if it is carried openly or even accidentally exposed, one could lose their lisence to carry concealed. That is very unusual to have such a severe consequence for such a minor infraction.

I guess some people cannot be expected to form opinions based on knowledge of such things

You really don't get it. Sad.

I get that Slim knows the law and is in compliance with it. I have seen nothing else to "get"
