Last Name change for US citizen

Need a little help....

I want to change my last name to my husbands last name. Since we were married overseas is that certificate what I use to show the SS office? Will they accept it?

Can I use that to change my drivers license?

I know my bank will change my name without any problems as I worked with them when i got married so they will do that without issues.

What do I do first? the drivers license or the SS card?

Has anyone else done this and had problems? I've read somewhere that if you can get the drivers license done then the SS office can accept that as proof you changed but I don't think that's right.

Please anybody just let me know what to do. I want to get this done soon. It's taken back seat since filing visa and new job but now I have money and time.

Salam, just provide them Marriage certificate for the changing of your last name, but make sure it should be notarized (English Copy) my wife changed her last name too, first she changed SSN then driving license and passport.

Thank you ...yes we had the english marriage cert notarized in karachi along with the original in urdu. I can use the english one to show SS office then? They will accept the overseas certified marriage certificate?

Yes they will accept it, and secondly its a notarized copy so no issue.

Thank you...that's a small relief after all the visa stuff we've had to do that this isn't as intense

Any word on your ap? We've had no luck... called DOS this week and it's still pending.... emailed the embassy last week same thing... but DOS said this time (had a wonderful rep on the phone this go round) that Islamabad sometimes doesn't update their system as regularly so they may be finishing or doing the name checks etc but DOS doesn't have that info until case is completed and visa is ready to be issued then they get that last update...so... inshallah we both will see the end to this soon.

Still pending i called Consulate couple of days ago, As per lady my case is in normal processing and currently there isn't any red flag or document requirments, she said 90% cases go for AP which is normal for ISB, lets see how long this will take, Insha Allah one day this will be over.

Once you change it on your bank, license, etc do not forget to change it on your passport too. I am about to do that in a few days! I already changed it on everything else and boy was that tiring trying to change all of my documents!
