Victorian Police Check

I got my packet 3 on Monday. The instructions say I can get the fingerprints for the police check at any police station, but when I rang some nearby police stations they said I can only have them done by calling the 1300 number and making an appointment at the Melbourne fingerprints place, and when I rang that number they said they don't have any appointments for another month! Has anyone else got fingerprints done in Victoria recently? Did it take that long?

sorry i don't have any experience with VIC. I had mine done in NSW, which involved no wait. I just turned up at the local police station. before that though i had tried to do it in the ACT and that would have required waiting a month for an appointment. Luckily my parents lived in NSW so i was able to arrange it that way.

Thanks EmmaLouise. I called again this morning and I was given an appointment for 9am the next day! So I'm very happy

Yeah I called as well and they told me just to call up the police station near me and get a fingerprint/name check done. Make sure they take your fingerprints as well as do a name check, I had to convince the officer that I needed fingerprints taken as well.

I got the results back fairly quick, within a week or so.

Thanks guys. I went into the Victoria Police customer service centre in Melbourne. I got an appointment for the day after I called. I had the form ready with the certified copies of my ID. They took five minutes to take the fingerprints and said it would take 2-3 weeks for the certificate to arrive. Now I wait!

Hi all, I am new here. Please help.I got my packet 3 on 31/08/2011 and I have been trying to get the police check since then.First I was asked if I wanted the live or ink fingerprints.which one are we supposed to get.I was also told the next available spot at the Victoria Police customer service centre in Melbourne for the fingerprint check is 30 NOV...way too long if you ask me.I advised them of my predicament and was told go to to my local police station to get the fingerprints, and funny enough, I have no police station in my surburb.I have gone to 3 police stations and all pointed me to the National Victoria Police customer service centre at the wharf.I also asked the VIC police cust service if they had list of surburbs that did the fingerprints and was advised there was no list , I had just to try my luck by calling all...I am still searching ..Please anyone help..is there any area that does the fingerprints and is it supposed to be live or just ink one

Live or Ink doesn't matter. I prefer Live because, no ink left on your fingers!

As for police stations.. as there's the central location a lot of them refuse to do it. Luckily police stations in Melb aren't too far apart. Worst case scenario you could drive to Geelong or Ballarat (or any of the other regional locations listed here: http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=274 *scroll down*). I got an appointment the same day I called... you'll find not many people are waiting to have their prints done in Ballarat. But I would first drive to some of the bigger stations (not just calling, too easy to say no to a voice, not a desperate face)

Hey there Kady, try calling the Victoria Police service centre in Melbourne again. The first time I called I spoke to someone who seemed unsure about what they were talking about, she told me the next appointment was at least a month away. So I did what you did and tried calling around different police stations (even Geelong), they all told me that I had to go through the service centre. I called the service centre and was told by someone else that they had three appointments available the very next day. I went in the next day and got it done in 5 minutes. They even take credit card so you don't have to get the money order. Take the form from the website with you, you need copies of photo ID, and you need to get them certified. I got them certified at a pharmacy. If you don't have time, just take the originals with you and they can certify them at the customer service centre. I had the certificate back in 6 business days!

Thanks Vanessa.I have sent my DS- 230 form and hoping that they didn't need photos as I didn't send any .

No photos needed with the DS-230. There ARE pics required with the rest of P3 though from memory.

What form do we need for the fingerprint? I was told I need to download a form from the us embassy and I'll be getting an ink fingerprint and I can get it back on the same day. Is that correct??
