Hi,

Here is the place to start - the website for Canadian Citizenship and Immigration "Visiting Canada"

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.html

As a Polish citizen you will need a TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) - what Canadian's call a visitor's visa and can download the application form from the website. It lists all of the items you need to attach with it, then you need to contact the Canadian Consulate in the US responsible for the area in which you live. A list of the COnsulate addresses is also included in this website.

You are smart to allow plenty of time and you shouldn't have a problem getting the paper work done in time in order to get your visa to visit Canada next summer.

Current Requirements for Entry Into Canada

Alien permanent residents of the U.S. must present their Alien Registration Card, commonly called a “Green Card.”

ok, so I am not crazy  ....

I do know that some countries have different requirements for entering as a permanent resident but I was sure that Canada wasn't one of them...

Oops, mea culpa. Marilyn is right and I didn't read far enough down the page that lists the countries requiring visas to enter Canada. Here is the excerpt from the "Exemptions" listed at the bottom of the page:

"persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence who are in possession of their alien registration card (Green card) or can provide other evidence of permanent residence."

It is the other way around - Permanent residents in Canada require visas to the US unless their country of citizenship is one of the visa-waiver countries, or the US, of course.
