Can someone please explain what exactly is each NOA1 and NOA2 and NOA 2.5, etc. My fiance swears i lost the NOA1, but I am not sure which is NOA1? Help me:-)please....todd

The terms "NOA1", "NOA2", etc. have no officlal meaning and really should not be used on VisaJourney as evidenced by your question.

NOA means notice of action (all issued on USCIS Form I-797c). The first notice you receive is the receipt notice for your petition submission and payment. I don't think it really matters if you lose it.

The second notice you receive is an RFE or an Approval Notice. People always refer to NOA2 as an approval notice but that's not always the case. My approval was the third notice I received because I also had an RFE.

You will receive many more "NOAs" as you proceed through AOS and removal of conditions. There's no need ot refer to them by number. Just refer to them as receipt notices, approval notices, requests for evidence or whatever they actually are.

:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: I HATE it when people call an approval a NOA2 even though they received 15 RFE's. I wish people would just stop calling the I-797c a NOAect.

NOA1- yes, i think this means that they got it.

RFE- definitely means "request for further evidence" ... not a good thing to get.

NOA2- means that it was approved here, and they they are going to send packet of imformation to fiance (???... right :)

and you know, ive been wondering what exactly "touched" meant, too :)

From what I understand a 'touch' is whenever someone accesses your case, sometimes a touch means that something was done with it or sometimes it just means it was opened or moved to someone else to look at etc. I think there's a way you can look online to see what if anything was done during a 'touch'.

The way you can tell your case has been touched is if the last accessed date is more recent than the last time you looked. Hope that helps and that it didn't confuse you more

Can someone please tell me exactly which document is which?

NOA 1 is VSC received it?

RFE means it was "touched"?

Approval leterr means NOA2?

please help me understand..thanks...todd

NOA 1 (Notice of Action) in terms of an I-129F means that it has been received

RFE - Request for Further Evidence

Touched - it has been looked at or moved or someone spilled coffee on it

NOA 2 (Notice of Action) in terms of an I-129F generally means that the petition has been approved and will be forwarded to NVC

A NOA is a notice of action. It is an I-797C form.

A NOA2 does NOT necessarily mean it is approved. Each time an action or decision is taken on your case, you will be mailed an I-797 form stating what action has been taken.

If you receive an RFE then that will more than likely be the second action taken on your petition and so you will receive a visa journey term (NOA2) and if the third action taken on your case is an approval then you will receive a visa journey term (NOA3).

The reason why everyone is confused is because they say here on visa journey "hey man, I got my NOA2 today" but in reality, it is their NOA15 because that is the 15th action taken on your case. :bonk:

Everyone should really get away from calling their actions NOA's. It should be called a receipt notice-not (NOA1), an approval notice-not (NOA2) RFE -request for evidence.
