Hey guys - I don't know what I'd do if I hadn't stumbled across these forums and poured through the information everyone has so generously shared here!

As I get my things ready for the interview (and grow more nervous by the day that I'm going to say his favourite colour is pink instead of what it truly is or some such thing causing the world to end and my visa be denied), I have a few questions for those that have gone thru this already:

  1. What happens if you make an honest mistake in the answers during the interview? Do they permit you to get X amount incorrect before you are denied?
  2. Do I need to bring proof of our weddings? Photos, guest lists, etc? Do I need to bring further proof of our relationship beyond the notarized letters from friends and family sent with the original I-130 application?
  3. Can you bring a book/reading material with you while you wait for your interview? From what I've been reading you can't bring any electronics with you, but is good ol' fashioned paperback permitted?
  4. What happens if you are denied your visa? Do you have to start the process all over again? (I don't anticipate this happening, but you simply never know.)

Thanks so much! :)

Hi there,

I have posted an entry weeks ago on How to Organize Your Documents and what to expect on your visa interview. I know we are countries apart, but the process is most likely same. Here's thelink to my post. Hope you find it helpful! Good luck.

* * *

Answer to your questions:

1. They will flag your wrong answers. Expect that they will probe deeply on items with inconsistencies. To avoid such mistakes, rehearse and memorize impt details, days prior your interview. In my post, I have listed down the common questions they ask.

2. Yes, you need to bring wedding photos and useful proofs. I have also mentioned this on my post, as well as the correct filing of documents, the best folders to use when organizing your photos etc.

3. I wouldn't advice bringing any other reading materials. Make sure you wouldn't miss your cue and keep the consul waiting. Focus focus focus.

4. For one, don't even entertain the thought of getting denied :-)... But if it happens, you will be asked to proceed on another window and the staff would discuss with you what documents you are lacking and when you can apply again.

Hopefully it will not come to that. If it did, the file would be sent back to USCIS. USCIS could either reaffirm the petition or send a Notice of Intent to Revoke (NOIR). Any NOIR would have to be refuted by the stated deadline. An NOIR would also state specific reasons why it was sent and it would be those from those reasons that a rebuttal would be formed.

Take a deep breath and try to relax. :) It is extremely unlikely that you will be asked about your spouse's favourite colour at your interview in Montreal. Read through the consulate reviews through the link at the top of the page. You will see that any questions asked are very basic. I was only asked when we met, if my husband still worked for the same employer, was I working and had I ever lived outside of Canada. That was it. I had 10 years worth of relationship evidence and was not asked for any of it. Always best to be prepared and bring everything you have but it's unlikely they will ask to see it. Once it is over you will realize it was the easiest part of the process.

You can bring a book to read if you like just no electronics.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys - I can't wait for this stressful leg of the journey to be over.

Paperwork is black and white - Border agents are people who don't necessarily see in B&W and so the more I think about the interview the more stressed I feel - waiting for the paperwork to be processed was alot less stressing. :)
