My joint sponsor HELP :)

Hello. I have another question. I'm trying to wrap things up in time so that when I finally fly to my fiancee's country to attend the interview, I'll be well finished and complete.

I turn out to be, alone, just above the 125% above poverty level. I'm planning to have my dad joint sponsor on the I-134 Affidavit of support form. For this, do I just need him to fill one out, for the same person (Carolina) just as if he was sponsoring her alone? So we'd have one from me, sponsoring her, than one from him... if that's the answer. Any light on this is appreciated.

Also, in the part where it says "relation to sponsor" I'm putting fiance, obviously lol. Will my father need to put "future father in law"?

He is self-employed. I can get his tax stuff, even transcripts, as I've already done with my own.

If anyone could give a full explanation, I'd be more than thankful!

If anyone can just answer my questions, thanks!

Matt

Yes, your father will fill out his own I-134, and provide the supporting docs, just like you did. He also needs to include proof of being a USC or LPR. For relationship, he can put, "Son's Fiancee" or "Future Daughter-In-Law"

My sister is a co-sponsor and she filled the I-134 form and supports it with the letter from the employer, tax transcript and paystub. I think your father should do it the same way.

Good Luck

Okay... he just informed me that he filed an extension on 2010 taxes, so they're not finished yet. Could maybe 2009 and 2008 tax transcripts be sufficient in this case?

Matt,

If you meet the requirements, then you don't need a co-sponsor at this time. This is one of those cases where more is not necessarily better. So, either you meet the requirement...or you do not meet the requirement. There is no gray area.

If you are above the level, then don't worry about trying to get a co-sponsor. It is just more unnecessary paperwork and obviously your dad hasn't filed taxes yet. Make sure you take your 2010 federal tax returns to the interview. They asked for mine and fortunately we had them.

All in all, the interview was stressful (more about just being extremely nervous), but it went fine. Everyone at the Consulate was friendly and helpful.

Boa Sorte,

John
