Rin's GC was issued 11/20/2008, so her 90 days prior will be next Monday (August 22nd). We are leaving the country for two weeks on Sunday. If we drop the application in the mail on Sunday, they won't receive it until Tues or Wed. Trust that works, Can anyone confirm the clock on 90 days? Should I date all the forms August 22, 2011? My other option is to have a friend mail it for us on Monday.

Both options should work just fine. USCIS goes by the date they receive the application and neither t the date on it nor the post mark date.

You do have a third option which is to mail it after you return from your trip...

To be on the safe side and not worry or have any regrets later why you didn't mail it yourself, mail it on Sunday or even on Saturday by priority mail which takes 2-3 days.

You mail the application and leave the country.

I recall the "received date" on the application is what they go by, not when you mailed your application, or when you signed it.

During your interview you will need to provide any travel dates between the "received date" and your interview.

The IO will note you were out of the U.S. during the "application received date".

I think one has to be in the U.S. to file.

Maybe someone can give a definitive answer, or maybe i am missing something.

You are already going on 3+ years of immigration paper work... what is another two weeks? I would just wait and mail it when you get back.

Nope, citizenship. Rin received a 10 yr GC (after being in the USA for 18 months on a K-3) on November 20, 2008.

I will be going to Europe on business in Q1 next year. If Rin can get her citizenship and then US passport by then, we can avoid getting her a new Thai passport (hers expires in December) and then a visa for Europe (Thai citizens need a visa to enter EU, US citizens do not).

I am going to drop it in the US mail on Sunday on my way to the airport and date all the forms 8/22. Shouldn't be an issue as it won't be postmarked until 8/22.

Did you go through the previous monthly posts to see how long in general it takes for your DO to process N400 applications?

Sometimes that will help you make the decision...

Yes. The last year's worth of data for Memphis (only five timelines) would suggest a 3 - 4 month processing time (from mailing to oath ceremony). Decision has been made.
