Forgive me for being "on topic" but here was one presidents opinion on the matter.

Can a Presidential Candidate who has openly advocated secession from the Union be taken seriously when he professes to love America?

Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world.

I believe Lincoln said that in reference to voting out the government that makes you unhappy, not secede from the union.

seriously?

I misspoke. I thought that Lincoln made these remarks in response to the Civil war, but it looks like he made them in reference to Texas seceding from Mexico. However, I am also going to take this quote with a grain of salt because I can only find it quoted in Tea Party & other secessionist websites, and not in an academic websites.

But still, I don't see why Perry would want to become the President of a Nation that he is not particularly proud of.

If you wish to see an independent Texas, what better place to be to be than the White House to ensure your wishes get a full and thorough hearing?

It's not about "being proud" at all, it's more like what Abe said- shaking off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better.

SOmetimes peoples just can't agree on things and so it is their Right to form their own Government.... just as we did when we divorced ourself from british rule.

I find it ironic that Lincoln promoted Texas splitting from Mexico, yet he was all against the South going their own way.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

He wanted to send all the negroes to Texas and split it from the Union since Mexicans wouldn't care about intermarrige, etc.
