Maximum range, how do you run away from your own brain? The victim can take steps but only if it is safe to do so, what if it's not. You stalk and menace your wife at every turn, you randomly beat her for no reason or for some fabricated insult, you rape her whenever you feel like it, what is she supposed to do? Wait for you to have a heart attack (Slim, are watching your diet, seriously, with all that fast food you eat you worry me, Man)? C'mon now, at some point you get her conditioned to believe that escape is impossible, even if all she has to do is walk out the door. Hell, you could even leave it open and she wouldn't go.

I realize there are psychological problems on both sides of abusive relationships. But, what I can't accept is the need to remain in them. There has to be that switch that is engaged, "LEAVE!!!"

I know that doesn't always happen and that's why there are abusive relationships in the first place. However, to me, the "bad guy" isn't just the one doing the beating, raping, mind control, etc. It's mutually perverted if you ask me. If someone remains in an abusive relationship, they're just as much to blame as the "offender" and instead of them being a "victim" I see them as more of an accomplice.

i agree with you but some people don't know any better, they think that's it natural to be abused, usually because of previous abuses. They tend to seek out partners who are abusive and abusers smell the blood in the water (to use the shark analogy) and key in on them. To a certain extent it is a case of enabling the abuser but usually the victim is already so frail that he or she just goes along rather than face the abuse issue.
