Apparently General Tso (of spicy chicken fame) had his testicles badly burned as a child and went on a rampage all throughout China.

I do not know what that's like and honestly cannot for the life of me comprehend why anyone would. I simply cannot fathom keeping myself in a dangerous situation and the psychological problems that must be present to continue living amongst that cycle of violence.

I knew a woman who was a battered wife for something like 12 years. She wrote a book about it and told me if I read it I would better understand why she stayed for so long. I never read the book because, honestly, I've never seen a need to understand the why behind it.

To me, it's an easy fix. If an adult person chooses to stay in that situation than whatever happens to them is their own responsibility and I don't feel sorry for them or empathetic to their plight.

However, the brainwashing techniques used by the abuser are very powerful, men have also stayed in violent relationships, that if you haven't lived it, it makes no sense. You're honest about it and you deserve much credit for admitting that. So many people (women and increasingly men) suffer from PTSD due to the abuse that it is truly scary.

Not true, unfortunately.. The victim either is so inured to the cycle of violence that he or she no longer cares, it becomes an inevitability. Just like POWs or those people in the concentration camps, what happens when you lose all hope, you just accept your fate. I wish that it was just as simple as leaving but many victims are in the greatest danger once the abuser leaves since he or she may return to kill or maim the victim.
