If you exclude the top 1% and say everyone between 5 and 50% is middle class, the numbers are as follows:

5-10% 11.03% 11.22%

10-25% 21.62% 16.40%

25-50% 19.86% 10.96%

The group's share of income is 52.51%, share of taxes - 38.58%.

So no, they don't pay the most.

The income split point for Top 5% is $159,619.

According to this those between 34,300 to 141,900 paid 50.5 of federal. That figure will jump when you consider other regressive taxes paid.

The numbers I quoted are for 2008, so it's possible their share increased from 38.58% to 50%.

The rich lost a lot of money between 2008 and 2010, so it's not surprising.

Still, we're talking about 90-95 percent of taxpayers paying just over half of all income taxes (50.5%). That doesn't seem like a "fair share" to me.

Still think the middle class is paying the most taxes, wolfie?

How about you, Mumsie?

I just looked at the cutoff numbers that have been posted for income, suddenly I want more tax cuts.

Income tax or other taxes, interesting question, isn't it?

I think the government needs to give more bail out money to the rich. I mean those ceo's need a bigger bonus.

Screw em, I say tax em. They want to take their factory's over seas, then tax the fck out of them and hopefully they will take a hike also. Let them go live in banana land along with their slave laborer.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Actually, the article says "50.5 percent of all federal tax revenues in 2007".

My number - 38.58% (for 2008) only includes income taxes. The difference is Social Security + Medicare taxes.

Yes, only give tax breaks to those that hire here. Tax them for jobs sent offshore.

Luckily, we don't bleed the sick anymore, but we are bleeding our government to death.

Which is what this is all about. Starve the beast! It ain't about taxes, economic growth, jobs, budgets, deficits, debt or any such thing. It's not about opportunity or the future or what was once known as the American Dream. It's about the removal of everything that makes a modern society, a civilized society and turn back the clock on what once was the greatest nation on earth. That's what this is all about.

3.8 trillion per year doesn't look like the beast is starving.
