you are good to go with the normal documents required

The only thing you might be questioned is that you need to prove you are free to marry(this is obvious), like a divorce decree, single etc

I too married in Egypt and It wasn't required to have a certificate of religion.I'm Catholic and He's Muslim.We were married with no problem.Went to the American embassy filled out a form and that was it simple.Even with religious it wasn't required for proof of our religion.Congrats and Goodluck

Hi! Since you are catholic no you wont be bringing a paper from your Church or anything. When you go to the Embassy and tell them you want to get married, they give you a paper to fill out of your info and his info and to write what your religion is. Very simple on your part. They only make it slightly harder when the American says they are muslim.

We had an "Islamic" marriage and I didn't have to show proof of my religion. I said I was Muslim, they took my word for it. Non practicing and all.

I heard the same thing, I wonder why they would ask for it if your not Muslim let's say why would you lie about it. Doesn't make sense to me but then little does hahahaahahaaa.

If u still want a islamic wedding you can still track ur records. Since the church is not standing today, can go to the local catholic church. They can help you track ur records. And it is faster now they can do it all online now.

During the year I married I dont think they offered the free to marry paper in egypt. Now these were my experiences I don't know what changes has happened there now. By the way, what is meant by the earlier comment by another poster that the church is no longer standing? Did I misread that statement? If not, which church is no longer standing?

Hi Angel, yes i can see you having to do that then be re-baptized in the Coptic Church since they don't allow intermarriage. Hummm I would like to know that meaning of that also. Might be that things have changed since we can have intermarriages if not mistaken. Thank you for sharing your experiences, you just don't know who you might be able to help.

An Islamic marriage is also a legal marriage, so, if it's not recognized as legal, it's not Islamic either.
