I was just reading this:

http://travel.state.gov/pdf/supplements/PRS-SUP-ENGL-0001-0809.pdf

And I saw that all translations need to be notarized. Is that for real? Does anybody have experience on that? Is the US embassy the only place you can do that?

Yes, all documents that are not used in Algeria will need to be translated by ANY certified translator AND notorized.

My fiance had to have tons of paper work translated. Moreover, the government of Algeria prefers that the translations of the Algerian citizens be done in ALGERIA. So, if he were to send me any Algerian documents (i.e. his birth certificates) and I had them translated in USA, the Algerian Government won't accept this. Your documents must be translated in USA, and HIS document must be translated in HIS country. When having any translation done, it must be via the use of "CERTIFIED" translator.

After all the translating is done, it needs to be notarized.

Hi, thanks.

Our embassy is Paris so it's a bit different. For them you have to have whoever translated it and "certified" that they were able to do so, go in front of a notary public and swear that the certification is true. We ended up having it redone on line.

Actially, we haven't passed the interview yet so I hope it works out :)
