I heard something on cable TV about how the new GOP primary rules (instituted by Micheal Steele) give proportional representation, thus guaranteeing a long primary fight and giving underdogs more of a shot at staying competitive longer. Steele was a guest on the show I heard this on, and he said this is intended to avoid any more non-competitive primaries.

I'd be comfortable with President Romney. He isn't insane.

I am sure you would. Romney is even more of a RINO than Perry. He would be a Obama the Socialist lite.

I want her to win, it might be fun.

Perry avoided the iowa Straw Poll because he didn't want to look bad. His campaign has started out slowly but will gradually die off.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few folks stuffing ballot boxes from the Left just to make that happen, especially in open primary states...unless Obama has a challenge to his nomination.

Perry got the backing from the powers that be in the National GOP party. His financing is secured. He has the deal from the media in hand. He wouldn't have announced if he didn't.

Bachmann is not who the GOP want at all. The media will marginalize her even more now as they will start oohing and ahhing over Perry. Bachmann has supporters and she will still make a squeak but that is all she will do. She will not even be invited on the ticket as a V.P. Neither will Palin.

Too little, too late. Perry needed to be in Iowa. I don't think that he's going to make it.

She will not win. She will not win except her own state primary if even that.

Perry started too late to play the game needed to in Iowa. The two best organizers running at the time won Iowa.

I don't know what's going to happen. Bachmann is a lightning rod, good and bad. Romney can win, though.

Steele was a guest on the show I heard this on, and he said this is intended to avoid any more non-competitive primaries.

Details:

... the GOP's decision to adopt one of the worst features of the Democratic primary process: awarding primary delegates proportionately. As an RTT News story explains:

Because of a little known change in the Republican National Committee's rules in 2010, early GOP presidential primaries and caucuses will award delegates to the presidential nominating convention on a proportional basis.

In GOP presidential primaries in recent memory, the candidate who wins the most votes in any given state wins all of the votes of nominating delegates from that state at the national convention.

The revised timing rules for the 2012 primary, adopted by the RNC in 2010, now call for any state which holds a primary or caucus before April 1 to award their delegates on a proportional basis, rather than the winner-take-all method that Republicans have traditionally favored.

Having the old system in place was one of the reasons that Republicans had a presidential nominee three months earlier than Democrats in 2008 (a running start utterly wasted by John McCain). Proportional allocation is a recipe for a fractured and fractious party and -- with a wide field of candidates -- a potentially indecisive outcome to the primary season. Some will argue that it's a corrective to the disproportionate power of the first few states to vote. Fair enough. But making a bad system worse doesn't strike me as a good first step to reforming the process by which we choose our nominees.

The danger is like Thompson, the late comers frequently have an uphill battle. If Bachmann can keep it up, she might surprise the boys. Look for Dr. Paul to cause some serious havoc, with all the infighting he might just take it.

Trust me he didn't need Iowa yet. He will play there very well later and win that state. Unless he stumbles big time the nod is his and he has never stumbled that badly in any election. He gets challengers every time that are big names and he eats them alive. He is personable. He looks good. He talks good. Men like him and the woman will love him. He has the big time money behind him. The big time money came to him to run. He will win the nomination. And the best part for y'all he will keep the status quo.

He sounds weird when he talks. Like a used car salesman.

Exactly. Iowa is small potatoes. He announced in South Carolina for a reason.

The secessionist candidate announced in South Carolina? Hmmm!

The media don't like to marginalize her. They will continue to do so. They will start to play up Perry now.

I love Ron Paul but he will not be allowed to win. We need a Ron Paul but will get a Perry.
