Maybe you don't remember the last time Romney ran. He was very wooden and not very personable. In the debates he looked like he was lost The GOP remember this and consider him damaged goods. Bachmann really thought she would get the GOP behind her and get the powers to back her but they decided to back Perry. They don't want Bachmann to get the nod. She can still make waves but will have to do so on what she brings in herself. She has a lot of rabid fans but they can only give so much.Ron Paul is the same. The GOP will never give him anything. They even run a well funded person for the GOP primary in his own district to try to unseat him. We reelect Paul anyway by a huge margin but the GOP spends a lot trying to unseat him anyway every election.

We will see. The major media is going to go with Perry and make it a tad easier for him. They will continue to marginalize Bachmann and even more so. Paul will be ignored as much as possible. Since Perry got the backing from the National powers with the funds needed to run the media notices that and want that cash for themselves so they will start to be nice to Perry to appease the powers that apportion which media get how much.

There's no derailment here just the realization of what might be coming down the pike. Rick Perry is Mr. Minimum Wage - the share of minimum wage jobs in Texas has gone up under his governorship. And that has happened despite the boom of well above minimum wage jobs in the oil and gas exploration sector which is driven not by Gov. Perry but by rising oil and gas prices. So, discussions on how to get by on minimum wage are very much relevant when discussing Perry's announcement.

The revised timing rules for the 2012 primary, adopted by the RNC in 2010, now call for any state which holds a primary or caucus before April 1 to award their delegates on a proportional basis, rather than the winner-take-all method that Republicans have traditionally favored.
