A modem phone is VOiP (voice over internet protocol). A good example is Magic Jack. It wouldn't work for a Moroccan cell phone, because you have to physically plug a phone into the computer for it to function. It's a good option if your SO has home internet service.

I thought magic jack stopped working in Morocco. Do you know of any other services-or if magic jack is now working again?

Also, if you have a Maroc Telecom number, you can sign up for 20 free text messages to a Moroccan phone from the internet a day. It's fun, and it works for as long as you keep the number active. So when I text my fiance, I go to iam.ma, sign in where it says "mes sms gratuits" and then I can text my heart out to him. :)

I just used Stanacard.com and it works great. I added $10 to the account and added three mobile phones to call in Morocco (Tarik's family) and Italy from both our home and cell phone and they issue you a local number in the states. When you call that number from your phone it automatically connects to the cell number in the Morocco and Italy. The rates are much better than provided by Sprint (.78 cents to mobile phones and .49 cents when calling from a LAN line). I got my calls to Morocco for .33 cents to a mobile which is great and .1499 cents to Italy. I am very pleased once you don't have money in the account you cannot use it until you recharge it so not bad at all.

I recommend it, and my husband is ecstatic to be able to talk to his family.

Good luck..

Since we can't use the Magic Jack anymore since his arrival here in the States, we just use a Kroger International calling card. It cost 10.00 and roughly gives you 3 hours of calling time to a home number not a cell phone. If you get a 20.00 calling card it's almost 5 hours of talking time to a home phone. For 10.00 a month he calls every Saturday and talks about 30 minutes or more. It's worth it and no extra cost and worries and you can re add 10.00 every month to the card instead of going to buy a new one.

We use VIP Phone Service to call family in Morocco.

It's very easy b/c you can set it up so that whenever you go below a certain balance, it will automatically replenish by an amount you determine through whatever method of payment you decide.

We never have to worry about it.

Here's the link, if you're interested. Someone on here told me about it a while back, and it's been great for us.
