Hi folks!

I know it's been a while, but I've been busy taking care of our baby girl while attending school full time and working (both from home, online).

The latest news I have to share is that my mom applied for a US tourist visa (her second attempt; last year, she was not granted one), and on August 9, miracle of miracles --- she was approved.

The biggest shock too was that when the visa was delivered it was a multiple entry visa good for 10 years! lol

She will not be visiting for a couple of months yet so I was wondering if any of you can offer some advice. On her application, we had indicated that she is visiting for 3 weeks. Would it be okay for her to stay longer without requesting an extension (nothing drastic, we were just hoping to have her over for 6 weeks instead of 3)? As I understand it, when you enter on a tourist visa the maximum stay is 6 months each time, so it doesn't sound like a big deal...except of course on the POE system it says she will only be here for 3 weeks. My mom is already getting all sorts of "advice" left and right and we just want to sort out all the facts from the fluff if at all possible. She needs to buy her ticket early while the prices are good and there are still good seats.

Your inputs would be greatly appreciated. We're all very excited...she is finally going to meet her apo (grandchild)...and just in time for her first birthday in October! :D

She can stay longer or shorter, she just can't exceed the number of days (or months) that the CBP stamps on her passport at the POE. When my family came they only said they'll stay for a month but the CBP gave them 6 months (they still left after a month though)

Good luck!

I am pretty sure she will get an I-94 w/an expiration of the 6 months at the POE. She would just have 2 leave before it expires. I haven't had 2 deal w/a tourist visa & haven't done any research on it but it shouldn't be an issue.

Congrats on the approval though!

Thank you for the inputs. :)

We just didn't want to make a mistake...I've read about revocations, although in those cases, they really used up all the six months an requested for extensions prior to that. Since we found out she was given a multiple-entry visa, we figured it would be ok to lengthen her stay from 3 weeks to 6 weeks, but just wanted to be sure before we tell her about it. My mom has never flown internationally before (which is why I am shocked that she got the kind of visa that she did), and she is very nervous about getting on a plane by herself.

Also it would just be nice to have my Mom over to experience Thanksgiving! :D

She'll be asked how long she intends to stay, it is reasonable to say 4-6 weeks, then her passport will be stamped with whatever length was deemed sufficient by the inspector. Normally, she'd be given 6 months, I suggested the 4-6 week so at least they stamp 3 months. After that, no need to make any extensions as long as she departs within the given time.

My mom purchased her ticket. We decided we will have her over from September 4 to October 30 :) She felt that Thanksgiving might be too cold for her lol

Gosh that is less than 3 weeks away! :D

Her POE is in Detroit...any advice?
